Grassley: Palin not likely to run for president
The Sioux City Journal ^ | March 23, 2011 | Bret Hayworth

Posted on 03/23/2011 5:02:00 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

There was a ton of great information this morning when U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, spoke at Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School. After some initial hesitancy, the kids asked a lot of interesting questions, about political access, national issues like spending and climate change and presidential politics. Grassley was asked his views of possible 2012 campaigns by businessman Donald Trump and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Grassley said if he decides to publicly endorse a candidate, it won’t happen until late summer at the earliest. As for Palin, Grassley said he doesn’t know her well, adding up that he’s had three conversations with her, with a minute each time. He said it appears Palin — who has done well as a bestselling author with two books in the last two years, a reality show from Alaska on The Learning Channel and a Fox News gig — likes making money, which makes sense because she has several children to support.

“I don’t know whether she’d make a good president …. I don’t think she will run,” Grassley said.

But Palin certainly has every right to pursue the presidency, he added. The Palin info from Grassley today is interesting, because it coincides with news that conservative blogger Andrew Breitbach thinks the presidency is “beneath” Palin.

“I think the presidency is beneath her,” the conservative media activist told GQ. “There’s more power in being Oprah Winfrey than in being Barack Obama. It would be my goal for Palin to become Oprah and be the ultimate kingmaker for twenty-odd years.”

Grassley said he has the impression Trump isn’t fully committed to running for president. If he does, the senator said, that would involve articulating positions on major national issues and not just relying on his status as an uberbusinessman. Trump is first slated to speak in Iowa on June 10.

Elsewhere in Iowa today, three possible GOP presidential candidates spoke to the Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators in Des Moines. That drew Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, Texas Congressman Ron Paul and businessman Herman Cain.

Not that I like Chuck, but I don't think she'll run either.

It will be hilarious to watch all the RINOs *BEG* her to campaign for them. And then tell them she has 'previous commitments'.

Governor Palin has said numerous times she will survey the field of candidates and run if they are not talking about the issues that matter. I don't know why this is so hard for people to understand. She has made her intentions clear and yet you got these 3rd-string arm-chair QBs speculating on what she's going to do. The truth is, NOBODY knows what Palin is going to do besides her and her small but trusted group of staffers loyal to her.

She is running a brilliant and shrewd campaign. Why make your intentions known? She endured being slimed by the media so she knows what to expect now. If anyone is most prepared to run for Presidency, it's her.

I just found this one article, in which Grassley refused to endorse anyone in the early stages of the primary. I don’t know if he endorsed anyone later.

“Grassley remained neutral in 2008”

Congressman Steve King. Very late in the race, he lent his full support to Senator Fred Thompson.

I think the RINOs hate her more than the lefties do.

Just so. She will run if she thinks that God is calling on her to run. And that will be if her country needs her.

That may sound corny to some, but it’s just as it should be.

“I think the presidency is beneath her”

This is the same line used by Ann Coulter. Clearly, Republican elitists have agreed to make it a talking point.

The dishonesty is obvious—because the idea that the presidency is beneath her makes no sense.

What they’re trying to do is fool Palin herself into not running. But they are the fools—because this scheme would only work on a gullible, self-centered person.

They don’t know Palin.

I think she is going to run, but I also think it is very smart of her to keep things quiet at this stage. What possible benefits could announcing her candidacy at this stage bring her?

Have we ever seen so much written about the intentions of someone who they claim is so “unelectable?” It’s quite bizarre.

I would guess these Republican elitists are possibly acting on their misinterpretation of inside information regarding Palin’s thought process on this.

In any case, it’s laughably obvious. Put a line out in the media hoping it will appeal to her sense of pride.

This kind of strategy would work on a Newt Gingrich, a Donald Trump or a Mitt Romney, but it wouldn’t have any effect on a Sarah Palin.

No one leaves Congress poorer than when they went in. And for all the possible candidates, are they not into making money?? Give me a break, he’s backing a RINO.

...conservative blogger Andrew Breitbach thinks the presidency is “beneath” Palin.

I think the writer meant Breitbart. If Andrew actually said this, he's seriously misjudged Sarah Palin, and will live to one day eat those words.
