'She's becoming Al Sharpton, Alaska edition' read the headline for today's Politico story on some leading conservatives' growing disillusionment with Sarah Palin. The line was courtesy of Weekly Standard writer Matt Labash, who noted with apparent dismay Palin's "frequent appeals to victimhood and group grievance." Clearly conservatives consider the comparison an insult. But Reverend Al, for his part, says he refuses to be baited into getting offended. Instead, he tells us, "I would look at it with some curiosity, but its a funny circumstance to see them in. A lot of the establishment in the civil rights community didnt know what to make of me [either]." Now, Sharpton says, the "question is whether theyre trying to distance her and therefore remove themselves from somebody they have lost control over."
.
Which “leading” conservatives? Who deemed them as such?
The establishment GOP has lost control over conservatives; that is true.
They are just flat-out scared to death of her. Even Ronald Reagan didn’t ellicit this kind of a response. They know she’s going to take them to the cleaners in 2012, and they can’t find an avenue to stop her.
They are throwing their entire arsenal at her and it is failing. Rush Limbaugh says he can’t figure it out. I can. She is like a bullet train plowing through the balsa wood of the Democratic platform. The tea party people are only the beginning. If the old farts in the Republican Party don’t see the handwriting on the wall, and they continue to try to edge her out, they will be like the Democrats who got blown away in 2010. She is the conservative’s Joan of Arc. Sorry Dems, but you did it to yourselves!
The woman was accused of being the motivating force behind a guy who committed mass murder for crying out loud. She's supposed to just quietly sit there and take it? To respond is to engage in "victimhood"????
I didn't click on The NY Mag link because I don't want to start getting homo-erotic spam and DemocRAT fund-raising telemarketing calls so maybe Labash lists some of the occasions wherein Sarah Palin plays the victim card but I doubt it. He's just spouting "current wisdom" pap.
What a bastard.
What chaps my hide is that anyone pays attention to Sharpton.
Its all about control on the left. They cant compromise her so they cant control her. er go the constant attacks. You see the media will let you play their game as long as you show your cards. About every politician lives and dies by what others think of them. The media is the gatekeeper and amplifier of that identity of the politician. Palin has shown she gets her identity from her relationship from God, thus has no strings to yank, and can not be bullied into that position. Thus panic on the left.
Coming from the worlds greatest Racist organization’s:Black Democrats! That is Funny I do not want the GOP to control anyone,For Christ sakes you get a Rotten Mexican loving McCain or a Muslim Lackey Bush in return!!
I think its a compliment!
Dr. Charles Krauthammer (Democrat, speechwriter for Walter Mondale), George Will (A RINO’s RINO), Matt Labash (Bushie) and Peter Wehner (Bushie) among others.
” Now, Sharpton says, the “question is whether theyre trying to distance her and therefore remove themselves from somebody they have lost control over.”
Lost control over???
LOLOL!
Go Sarah!
First Meghan McCain and now Sharpton. Palin is having a good day.
We certainly hope so, Al.
Duh.
RINOS, the whole lot of ‘em. Feh!
Al Sharpton is used to having his women under control, the male chauvinist pig.
Al the Racebaiter just doesn’t “get it”. When the GOP takes control of Sarah Palin, she’ll be done. It’s an American thing. Don’t ever let anyone control you. Think about it Al.
Al Sharpton Suggests GOP Has ‘Lost Control’ Over Sarah Palin
You just can’t make this stuff up!
Too funny!
I suppose someone should let sharkman know we don’t allow the real men of our party beat down the women and leave them to fend for themselves by not paying child support. We don’t expect any real men here to tell Sarah Palin what to do at all in fact the real men here have found Sarah to be one of high stature and best listened to .
The old GOP is losing its base. Period.
Yep, and I'm one of them particularly after seeing them willingly hand over their leadership that WE bestowed upon them, they didn't "earn" it, we were just suckered, that's all. But we caught on much to their dismay, now to send a bunch of newbys that also suckered us packing. It'll take awhile, but it's doable.
