President Obama mocked his potential 2012 GOP rivals and poked fun at himself while Mitch Daniels returned fire and got in his own shot at Sarah Palin at Saturday nights 126th annual Gridiron Club dinner of Washington politicos and journalists.
Obama, in his first address to the group as president, pounced on Haley Barbours weight by highlighting First Lady Michelle Obamas efforts to end obesity in the country.
Haley, when Michelle said you should run, she didnt mean for president, he cracked.
The president didnt spare Tim Pawlenty either.
Tim Pawlentys not here, but hes hit the campaign trail hard, Obama said. And to be honest, I think the American people are going to have some tough questions for Tim. Specifically, Who are you and where do you come from? Which is OK. Two years into my presidency and Im still getting those questions.
Obama could not resist tossing a zinger at Jon Huntsman, a Republican who is stepping down as U.S. ambassador to China to consider a run for the White House.
Knowing that conservatives would question Huntsmans service in a Democratic administration, Obama said with a laugh, My dear, dear friend Jon Huntsman nobody has done more for my administration. Hes the yin to my yang.

It’s a play on the false news report by the useful idiot carl Cameron of foxnews after the 2008 election that said “insiders of the McCaian” think Steve Schimdt that Palin thought africa was a country.
Blazing ignorance. Daniels' nixed collective bargaining in 2005!
It was a good start for Daniels. But a couple of weeks ago he chickened out on right-to-work.
Yup.
It's what liberals do.
They make jokes based on a false premise.
John Stewart does that all the time.
Now we have Mitch Daniels.
The more I see of Mitch the less I like him. At this point I’m not sure who I would pick Obama or Bush the third Mitch.....
Maybe I missed something but what was Mitch Daniels even doing at the Gridiron dinner? That guy is dead last on my list of 2012 GOP candidates.
I believe Daniels nixed collective bargaining for police, mechanics and a few other type of state employees in 2005. I'm not sure what percentage of all state employees that includes.
But it doesn't include teachers, who still have collective bargaining privileges in Indiana, and Mitch Daniels has recently backed away from removing those privileges.
Perhaps he thinks of it as a truce.
To top that off, it is closed to the WH Press Pool. VERY tacky IMO, to have a collection of journalists and politicians, which is closed to the press.
