George Will Definitively Declares Sarah Palin “Cannot Be Elected President”
Mediaite ^ | January 2, 2011 | Frances Martel

We’re now less than two years away from the next presidential election, which means it’s time for 2012 presidential speculation to begin! The first This Week of the year kicked off the talk with some of the biggest names on the Republican side, and George Will seems to have found through the litany of names what he called “the President’s secret weapon”: Sarah Palin’s inability to be elected.

Asked by Jake Tapper (filling in for Christiane Amanpour) to evaluate the Republican landscape for November 2012, Will began by addressing the fact that Mike Huckabee had performed particularly well in the primaries in 2008– better than Mitt Romney– and then added this salacious tidbit of speculation:

“The President’s secret weapon may be the Republican nominating electorate… There is one person, high in the polls, Sarah Palin, who cannot be elected president because she cannot compete where elections are decided. In the collar counties outside Chicago, Montgomery County outside of Philadelphia– just can’t compete there.”

He went on give some predictions based on the fact that nominees, he explained, tend to win the majority of electoral votes in the Mississippi Valley– giving Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Sen. John Thune, and the suddenly-popular Gov. Mitch Daniels a leg up in that area.

It will be interesting to see if and when Palin confronts such derision, especially if this will set the tone for how pundits will discuss her chances for the rest of the year. While in 2010– two years removed– she could afford to be glib about it over Twitter, her chances as she races the clock will increasingly depend on how presidential she can come across, that trait one that, using her behavior last year alone, may be easy to “refudiate.”

...the avg idiot in this country will re-elect the impostor if he/she has a job.

::::::::::::::

Herein lies a big part of the problem. Average idiots put a socialist America-hater in the White House. Regardless of what Sarah does, or what the outcome, she will put a BIG spotlight on the RINO candidates and she will raise the bar on the conservative standard of those candidates. And that will happen if she runs in the primary or not. She is that good.

With all due respect, he did not say we are going to be stuck with socialism or worse, he just thinks Palin can’t win. Maybe he thinks another candidate can win.

That may or may not be true. That depends on what kind of campaign she runs and if she can win people who aren’t already fans of hers.

Yeah, and he probably thought Reagan couldn't get elected back in the 70s.

The more they treat her like the Gipper the more she may end up like him.

I always get frustrated when anyone says that there is no difference between democrats and republicans

...then someone like Will steps up and proves me wrong.

The president's secret weapon is the progressive elitist Republicans like Will. They will do whatever it takes to keep their power even if it means helping Obama get reelected.

For a lifetime denizen of the beltway, George Will doesn't really know too much about electoral politics. If I wanted to know how Palin would do in a certain "county" I'd ask Michael Barone, not Will.

Will "definitively declares"...WTF does he think he is, obama?

I'd like to know if the media is drinking too many of those "power" drinks, they seem to have imbibed themselves with limitless power these days.

Not only can obama wave his magic hand and make the law of the land, he has empowered his media czars - paid and unpaid - with the limitless power of deciding who the next president will be.

Is that outstanding, or what?

god and a bunch of little demigods liberally deciding what is best for the rest of us little people.

Well, you keep it up Mr. Peepers, and we'll see, what we'll see in 2012.

Palin Hate

She has the base's support...but the indies...who only pay attention to the alphabet networks, leno, letterman and comedy central will be swayed by the hit job they do on her.

That's the kind idiocy that gave us John F'n Amnesty Lovin' McCain. I will not accept another eneMedia selected RINO POS candidate. I demand a conservative!

We have another Carter in the White House. When Reagan ran against the previous Carter, he endured non stop LameStreamMedia attacks WITHOUT the benefit of the internet. Don't underestimate the fact that even the indies can see Obama for what he is and don't underestimate the power of the TEA Party.

Yes, I suspect that the same forces that had Romney throw the 2008 primary to McCain in the first 5 minutes are at work here. The RINOs don’t want somebody that will actually clean house and root out corruption. The PR is bad, but there is a lot of money in being a hang-dog do-nothing go-along-get-along Republican.

We’ll have to put up with this sort of gibberish until the primaries when Sarah SMOKES all her opponents. If the Jimmy-crats run Obama again, he’ll lose by the largest margin in history.

Can’t read all the posts so hope this isn’t a repeat but I recall that Geo Will threw a party right after Bummer won the election for him to meet the “DC elite” journalistists, both lib and “conservative”, so they could schmooze away.
Will is an elitist, inside the beltway, my s**t doesn’t stink journolist who thinks everyone hangs on his every word...not.

Start with the states that went for McCain. Add a bunch of midwest states and Florida that have since gone red. She'd make quite a race of it, just on the surface.

Put her undisputed energy expertise up against obama and five dollar gas, and watch the fun begin.
