Were now less than two years away from the next presidential election, which means its time for 2012 presidential speculation to begin! The first This Week of the year kicked off the talk with some of the biggest names on the Republican side, and George Will seems to have found through the litany of names what he called the Presidents secret weapon: Sarah Palins inability to be elected.
Asked by Jake Tapper (filling in for Christiane Amanpour) to evaluate the Republican landscape for November 2012, Will began by addressing the fact that Mike Huckabee had performed particularly well in the primaries in 2008 better than Mitt Romney and then added this salacious tidbit of speculation:
The Presidents secret weapon may be the Republican nominating electorate There is one person, high in the polls, Sarah Palin, who cannot be elected president because she cannot compete where elections are decided. In the collar counties outside Chicago, Montgomery County outside of Philadelphia just cant compete there.
He went on give some predictions based on the fact that nominees, he explained, tend to win the majority of electoral votes in the Mississippi Valley giving Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Sen. John Thune, and the suddenly-popular Gov. Mitch Daniels a leg up in that area.
It will be interesting to see if and when Palin confronts such derision, especially if this will set the tone for how pundits will discuss her chances for the rest of the year. While in 2010 two years removed she could afford to be glib about it over Twitter, her chances as she races the clock will increasingly depend on how presidential she can come across, that trait one that, using her behavior last year alone, may be easy to refudiate.

I am sure the fact that she didn't abort Trig triggers guilt pains with others. Still others resent the fact that she is the mother of five and has accomplished so much in life. Plus there's the media hatred for any women or minorities that are conservative. I'd be willing to bet that Allen West and Tim Scott face that too.
Let's not forget that “Mr. Baseball” had Obama over to his house for dinner to have a chat.
George Will is nothing more that a Network Approved Conservative Spokesman, AKA a RINO with a Bow tie...
Aw c’mon george
I believe a lot of American Conservative men would vote for an American "Margaret Thatcher" in a presidential election.
I agree, too, and I certainly don’t expect every pundit to express my personal views. Reagan built a huge coalition of conservatives with differing views...they all thought they were his favorite.
Why even ax the question, just like they supported him “relunctantly” last election.
Pray for America
George Will is a moron.
“Palin absolutely will lose if she is the nominee.”
I wouldn’t bet my money on that statement.
Nor would I bet my money on her winning, either.
Too soon to tell.
One thing I -can- tell you is this:
IF Sarah becomes the nominee, the 2012 will resemble either the election of 1980, or the election of 1964.
One or the other.
I say, “bring it on!”
Yea, we better recruit someone that georgie thinks is winnable....like John McCain LOL
..........columnist R.J. Eskow writing on his colleague George Will’s character, or lack thereof, in the Huffington Post, Nov. 2006 said.............
“The consensus today is that Reagan won that debate overwhelmingly. But, as often happens, it wasn’t all that clear at the time. Yes, Carter was weaker than expected and Reagan beat expectations (which, as with W, were deliberately pre-set at a low level by spin doctors.) But the overwhelming Reagan victory pundits recall today was partially the product of contemporary chatter that turned into consensus.
Will’s self-serving praise for his candidate (and himself) contributed to the perception that Reagan won - and that, despite popular perceptions, he was actually “Presidential.”
What were the repercussions for this shocking breach of journalistic ethics, which included lying by omission, misrepresentation, breach of the public trust, and use of stolen property? How did the journalistic community punish its own?
Will won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary the following year!
With that award, the editorial community made it clear that issues like disclosure, conflict of interest, and lying by omission no longer mattered. Ethical breaches were no impediment to either honor or success in American journalism. ((And they wonder why the profession has lost public respect.)
Washington insiders like to say that Will, unlike many other conservative commentators, is a “decent” guy. I don’t think so. Decent human beings don’t lie, and they don’t behave unethically.”
“I don’t think that has anything to do with Will’s opinion.”
Don’t bet on that. It doesn’t matter that Sarah hasn’t made an issue of her faith. The fact that Sarah believes in a higher power than the Washington elite is reason enough for George to write her off as inept.
Like Reagan, she has amazing policy instincts. I think she truly understands America, and on that basis continually comes up with great ideas.
Her real personality and non-Ivy/Oxbridge demeanor are hugely refreshing. However, that is also her weakness. She comes off as non-serious to people who don't take ideas seriously. There are many of those folks.
Sadly, Obama's fake assertiveness and fake policy wonk style are more impressive to the millions who get their political information from the likes of Jon Stewart, Time magazine, and Katy Couric.
Be prepared for non-stop “Huck” to be in the news for the next 2 years.
I’m voting Sarah Palin, Write-in or not! She is are only hope of the ones that could get elected, the rest just talk, she would deliver!
Jessie Jackson ran, no one says boo!
He lost!
Why can't Sarah lose by people not voting for her!
Please people, can she please run, I like her they best. and I know of quite a few million other who do to? Jessie was heard, Sarah has much more to say! I say if they can beat Palin they deserve to be President!
Let the idiots fall on their knees to Obama. We praise the Lord. It is his call.
Women voted GOP For the first time every because of Sarah Palin!
