Sarah Palin is turning down a Tea Party request to seek the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee.
"I respect the desire to have someone in charge of the RNC who understands the wishes of the conservative grassroots and understands that power resides with the people and not the vested interests in D.C.," Palin said in a statement provided to CNN. "However, the primary role of the RNC chair seems be that of fundraiser-in-chief, and there are others who would probably be much more comfortable asking people for money than I would be, and they would definitely enjoy it more."
Palin was asked to serve as chairman in a letter from the group Tea Party Nation, which sponsored a national Tea Party Convention last February. She was the headline speaker at that event.
Despite sporadic online chatter about drafting her for the job, the prospect of Palin serving as RNC chairman - with its day-to-day rigors of managing the committee's 168 members - was never a workable one.
Though Palin has raised millions for her political action committee, most of it has come in through small donations via the internet. The job of the RNC's next chairman, meanwhile, will be to spend countless hours on the phone raising money from the kind of high-dollar donors who stopped giving to the committee under the leadership of Michael Steele....

I guess I have no idea as to the motivations of anyone recommending her for the job. I would not like to see it happen because the responsibilities of the RNC chairperson are to advance the party in the direction the most ardent members want to take it. Other than hubris that may have been Steele's problem.
I want to see us take the party back. Then the chair can simply follow us.
Palin should be the leader of a movement. The party chairman isn't really the leader of the party.
Yes I agree with you on that.
Sarah is savvy though, and I think she realized it would be a self inflicted wound to run for that RNC position, or even accept it should she be selected for it, because it would be the most current, and overriding event in her career marginalizing to history her more important successes.
It’s a dangerous game, and her awareness of it is commendable in itself.
BTTT!
Agreed,...her talents would do far better elsewhere...certainly not as a political fundraiser. I say just let her go the route she wants to go...and if it’s Washington, in any capacity, I will be in her court.
Big time and those that are doing that are running scared and I am enjoying every minute of it. The democrat party is cracking and the RINOs are gonna have to chose sides. The line is drawn. Keep it up Sarah. We got your back.
No way. Put Mittens there, and sideline him.
Or big mouth Huckabee.
But Sarah is President No. 45.
Like another President I admire, she has a rendevous with destiny.
LOL :).
I just got in from work and am catching up on the latest stories and didn’t see it. Ooops!
Well, I wrote to you in FR. Please read it....lol.
I still think Sarah would be great at the EPA or Energy Dept...Let her cut it back 80%...
Please delete my PING post at #46-—I didn’t see Clyde’s before it.
I think that sidelining her is exactly what they tried to do.
Sarah Palin is the front runner to be the nominee for POTUS. This article is just one more effort to split the Conservative movement. Can’t you see that? We won the house back in large part due to the TEA party movement and Sarah Palin is a champion of our movement. Run Sarah, Run. Do you want me to tell you of her readiness and qualifications to be POTUS?
Yep, it was clearly another trap.
You guys are paranoid.
What do you mean? Are you after me too?? ;>)
It was a sincere request for her to become RNC Chairman. She didn’t want the position. Period.
She gave the polite and correct answer. What was she supposed to do? Give the honest, but rude and tacky answer?
