GOP: Will no one rid us of this troublesome Palin?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | December 3, 2010 | Cynthia Tucker

Posted on 12/03/2010 10:08:22 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Sarah Palin is a serious problem for the Republican Party. She is making several moves that suggest she will seek the presidency in 2012, even though it’s quite unlikely she could win a general election.

He negatives her high. Nearly half of Americans have an unfavorable view of her; only 22 percent view her favorably. Furthermore, the vast majority don’t believe she is electable. Though she recently told Barbara Walters she would defeat President Barack Obama in a head-to-head matchup, most Americans disagree. Sixty percent don’t think she would win.

But Palin has an adoring base that would make her queen for life if possible. She attracts huge crowds; she raises enormous amounts of money; she has resurrected candidates from the dead and turned them into winners. All that suggests that she could win the GOP presidential primary in 2012, especially in a very crowded field.

Rational Republicans have taken a look at that dynamic and begun to fret. And, suddenly, many are speaking out — criticizing Palin publicly. That’s something they were wary of doing until quite recently, since her loyal troops would extract a price.

Barbara Bush recently said that Palin should stay in Alaska: “I sat next to her once, thought she was beautiful, and I think she’s very happy in Alaska. And I hope she’ll stay there.”

GOP consultant Ed Rollins wrote about her: “The Reagan comparisons aren’t helping. You might as well compare yourself to Abraham Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt.”(continued)

Sooo,
The pubbie “elite” want things to continue as they have.
Let’s go along to get along? Well crappola.
Enough of this “compassionate conservative” b.s.
Enough of taking a beating with the m.s.m. and worrying about what they say.
Try pugshing smaller gub mint.
Try less gub mint is best gub mint.
Enough of this negotiating, as the libs NEVER give an inch, all they do is criticize conservatives and demand they give.
Conservatives are the majority and will be more so. Tell obammy to go fish and defund EVERYTHING.

I wonder what the author uses for her FR screen name.

Several possibilities come to mind.

Wow...like Rush always says; ‘the democrats will always tell you who they’re the most afraid of by who they continually rant about.’

What a pantload! Have you ever seen Sarah's supporters swoon or claim she was some kind of Goddess who would put gas in their cars or heat their homes as the Obummer syncopates have repeatedly done?

The FR anti-Palin troll posse loves to accuse them of exactly that. I've never seen it either.

Why is it horrible if she gets in the race ? If she wins she wins if she loses she loses. But their is NO reason to keep her from running. They do NOT choose our President? or do they? hmmmm.

I wonder if Cynthia Tucker is aware she’s in effect quoting a line calling for the assassination of Palin?

I was going to point out the same thing, but you beat me to it.

Of course she's aware of it - the entire worthless screed of an article was just to prop up the use of that headline.

She's part of Hillary's "army." These rock stupid, pathetic, poseur "women" are violent and full of hate and hypocrisy. Their faces have turned into permanent sneers, they literally strut when they walk, and they all think they're hitbitches for the mob looking for a fight. They're caricatures of themselves, and they absolutely cannot wait for Hillary to run again - and she will.

So Palin has huge negative numbers?! But then this little wench goes on to say...”She attracts huge crowds; she raises enormous amounts of money; she has resurrected candidates from the dead and turned them into winners”. Doesn’t seem to make sense to me.

Elementary, my dear Watson. You can be unpopular with the majority yet still attract big crowds and raise lots of money if a significant minority of people love you with a passion.

Such is the case with Sarah Palin. She has a large and very devoted and enthusiastic cult following. But this following doesn't amount to more than 20% of the population. The rest of the population doesn't think much of her, but it doesn't matter. Because we live in a coutnry with lots of people, 20% is enough to generate large crowds and lots of money.

For another example, look at Lady Gaga. She attracts massive crowds of people who are willing to pay an arm and a leg to hear her "music," even though the vast majority of the population either dislikes it or is indifferent.

Wow. It requires an incredibly high level of stupidity to write that.

I see. So in your world, only stupid people write the truth.

Yea nobody likes Palin.. her tv show flops, her daughter flops on her show, nobody buys her books..

On the contrary. Lots of people like her. The trouble is, a majority dislikes her. You don't need the support of the majority to attract a large cult following. Even if only 20% of the population like her, that's a lot of people in a country as large as ours.

“He negatives her high.”

So please help me with the translation of this phrase into English. Does she really mean,

"Her negatives are high"?

My 3rd grade teacher would not allow the original sentence to stand. In my world, stupidity displayed impeaches the source and argument.

The trouble is, a majority dislikes her.

That's not true either. Most people don't care one way or the other.

The other truth seems to suggest that you are swallowing the media's portrayal whole with a side of chips.

"in your world, only stupid people write the truth."

Speaking of stupidity impeaching the source, by what logic do you arrive at this presumption?

Here's how it makes sense (whether or not one agrees with it): there are TWO elections at stake, the primaries and the general.

Remember when CT Dems rejected Lieberman as a disgusting DINO and exalted when they nominated his primary challenger, good ole . . . whatzhisname . . . Ned Lamont?

Yeah, the Dems were sooooo happy they got rid of that DINO Lieberman in the primary and finally, finally nominated a REAL liberal . . . you know, whatzhisname . . . Ned Lamont.

Lefties like Cynthia want Romney to get nominated. That way there is no difference between the candidates and it becomes a popularity contest.
