Dick Cheney recently had a 5-week stay at the hospital to get a heart pump implanted, but the former vice president is not resting any longer.
Cheney is planning a 10-stop speaking tour, Politico reports. Most recently, he made an appearance at the 2010 Bakersfield Business Conference, where the Los Angeles Times reports he looked gaunt. CBS News says that he had lost 25 pounds while in the hospital.
Cheney was joined at the conference by his wife Lynne, Laura Bush, Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, and many others.
Daughter Liz Cheney told Politico, It was a tough summer and a very serious surgery, but that her father is doing really, really well.
The technology is amazing, and hes the toughest guy youll ever meet. Hes got his strength back, is loving hanging out with the grandkids, planning his next hunting and fishing trips, finishing his book and getting back engaged in the issues the countrys facing, she said.
The 69-year-old has had a long history of cardiovascular disease, having suffered five attacks.
In addition to his speaking tour, he plans to go on a book tour next summer when his memoirs are released, friends said.
I appreciate what he is doing, but I hope he is consulting his physicians and taking their advice before taking on strenuous demands.
Change his oil.
Rotate his tires.
Cheney’s good for another 100,000 miles.
This is one man I’d really love to meet. I hope the chance presents itself with one of his tours.
