Is Sarah Palin the Second Coming of Ronald Reagan?
Associated Content ^ | October 9, 2010 | Mark R. Whittington

At a reception and dinner attended by fifty conservative movers and shakers, Sarah Palin implicitly compared herself to President Ronald Reagan. At the same time she suggested that she is mulling a Presidential run in 2012.

According to Politico:

"Speaking to a group of well-connected Republicans at a private dinner in Florida this week, Sarah Palin implicitly addressed questions about her own electability by noting that critics also said Ronald Reagan couldn't win in 1980, three attendees told POLITICO.

"Palin, at an event organized by the conservative magazine Newsmax, told the right-wing crowd that those who don't have the same convictions will always say a true conservative can't win.

"Pointing out that the knock on Reagan was that he was also too far to the right, the former Alaska governor repeatedly invoked the 40th president and conservative icon, at one point citing the quotation he was most fond of: that America is a "shining city on a hill."

"'I think she sees herself as heir to Reagan,' said one attendee."

While just about every Republican politician invokes Ronald Reagan, just as Democrats like to invoke John Kennedy or Franklin Roosevelt, Sarah Palin's implicit suggestion that she is the heir or even the second coming of Ronald Reagan would seem somewhat presumptuous, at least at first glance.

There are some parallels. Like Reagan, Palin was a state governor. Like Reagan, a large percentage of the liberal intelligentsia has labeled her, mistakenly, as somewhat dim. Like Reagan, she is beloved by many, hated by many more. Like Reagan, Palin is something of a media star.

There are differences, of course...

Just look at the veritable firestorm of condemnation, ridicule and slander she's endured (from all corners!) for the past two-plus years; it hasn't even put a hitch in her stride! If anything, she's more energized than ever. It's simply amazing to watch.

Far, far lesser men take their pot-shots at her, when the majority of them would have curled up in a fetal, thumb-sucking ball by now if they'd had to deal with what for them would have been withering fire (from the leftie enemies, and from deep within their own ranks), but it's like throwing spitballs at a freaking battleship; Palin just soldiers on with grace, charm and a smile.

I have never seen the likes of it, and probably never will again. That's okay, though. We have her now. Thank almighty God.

You're tripe is so old and tired it must be boring to even you by now, piss. She accomplished more in half a term as Governor than most two-term mere mortals ever thought of attempting, while having a baby and running for VP to boot. And she made it look easy. Because when true greatness is lain like an ermine robe by God upon your shoulders, it lies easy.

She wears her power like a crown, head high, eyes clear and unblinking, miles above the petty and petulant fools like you, whose nattering and squeaking are too trivial of which to take note. You poor tortured creature of denial, that you should be infected with the despicably evil need to try to trivialize her outlandishly spectacular accomplishments will be your enduring legacy, and your eulogy.

Frankly, given a choice of the two mantles juxtaposed here, hers and yours, I'd take hers any day, if only I were made of such stuff.

I'm sorry, I can’t stop laughing long enough to say anything coherent. Thank you so much for making me laugh, whether you intended to or not.

We understand, truly. You're among friends who've come to expect nothing more, and it's okay. The mentally frail often respond to inescapable truths in a similar form of defense-mechanism denial.

That you can admit it is very encouraging...

Just checked out your Freeper profile. I assume you're in counseling with a qualified professional? That type of manic fixation is virtually always extremely dangerous, though most likely only to yourself. Such way-over-the-top displays are usually a cry for help... please get some if you haven't yet. Seriously.

The liklihood exists, as odd as it may at first appear, that somewhere there are people who care deeply about you. Do it for them. N'kay?

Sarah Palin's implicit suggestion that she is the heir or even the second coming of Ronald Reagan would seem somewhat presumptuous, at least at first glance.

No bias the way this was written, eh?

Of course she brings up what was said about Reagan because it's pertinent. One of the main reasons she is compared to Reagan is precisely because "they" have said she can't win, just as "they" said he couldn't win.....and for much the same reason.

It doesn't mean Sarah Palin assumes she's the second coming of Reagan, FGS! That's just stupid!

Reagan Man; pissant

“LOL Thanks for the post, airhead.”
“And in this particular case, dumb as a sack of rocks.”

I’m sure both of you geniuses know that using an ad-hominem attack is tantamount to running up the white flag. Surrender accepted.

Reagan was responsible for many moronic policies and statements over the years.

Policies:
Amnesty for illegals.
Goal: A world without nuclear weapons. (Yes the same asinine tripe 0 is pushing.)

Statements:
“Trees cause more pollution than automobiles.”
“Approximately 80 percent of our air pollution stems from hydrocarbons released by vegetation, so let’s not go overboard in setting and enforcing tough emission standards from man-made sources.”
“We are trying to get unemployment to go up, and I think we’re going to succeed.”
“Facts are stupid things.”

Time has been kind to RR. He WAS a nice guy. He did have a good set of (mostly) conservative principles towards the end of his life, but he wasn’t particularly competent or smart. Palin also did well as Governor, and would have finished up in fine style if not hounded out of the office by frivolous lawsuits.

She’s absolutely an improvement over RR in just about every respect.

There’s no way you can reason with Palin haters. It’d be easier to reason with an ox or even a runaway train. To benefit from ‘reason’ there has to be some form of intelligence that could - if properly stimulated - understand your arguments.

Don’t get me wrong: Palin haters may very well be intelligent but they’ve effectively painted themselves into a corner by continually demeaning and defaming her every move or word and the one, single act that everyone hates most is admitting an error. Those who shout the loudest for her scalp now will (hopefully) have to watch quietly from the sidelines when she is inaugurated.

I’m 76 years old and I’ve voted in every election since 1956. During those years I’ve wandered politically from Democrat through Independent and Republican to where I now reside, somewhere to the right of “Tea.” At no point in those 55 years have I been so excited and so motivated by a prospective candidate.

For more election cycles than I can remember we’ve been gradually conditioned and brainwashed to pull the lever for the lesser of two evils. We’ve become so used to it that we no longer give much thought to the fact that lesser evil is still evil. Now this once great country is teetering on the brink of an awful abyss and we are so blinded by business as usual that we debate whether or not to support a candidate that has the potential to pull us back from that brink and set us on a safe and secure path into the future. Can Newt pull enough Americans together to steer us away from calamity? Could Mitt? Or Pawlenty or any of the other run-of-the-mill Republican names bandied about? Not likely, while Palin is filling giant stadia they’re filling their pants. Sarah Palin must be our next President if America is to survive.

Do the math:
Frivolous ethics charges = $500k PERSONAL legal fees
Personal income = $125k

So if it was the legal fees that caused her to resign then why was the RNC writing a $130,000 check last month to pay off some of the fees dating back to 2008 when Palin has made well into eight figures in income in the last two years?

We need someone that conservatives love, and that middle of the road folks can be convinced by.

Sooo, who would that be?

"Sarah Palin must be our next President if America is to survive."

I believe this more firmly with every additional dishonest, uninformed, deceitful assault upon her person or her record. For these denizens of America's destruction to be so vitriolic in their pursuit of her demise is the surest proof that she's The One. The libtards (and their shameless ass-puppets in the GOP) are not now, nor have they ever, attacked any one figure (a private citizen, no less) with the sustained venom they aim at Sarah.

It's because they know what we know, and it couldn't possibly be anything else. She's The One.

As for reasoning with the mentally impaired haters on the right, I have no interest in so doing. I'm fine with just letting them know that we're immune to their disease. Their poison will be their own undoing. Hating someone doesn't hurt that person, it destroys the hater.

And good riddance to bad rubbish.

;^D

At the time, before the election, the biggest complaint about Reagan was that he was too conservative and could not get crossover votes.

Sound familiar?

I think a cult of personality has evolved over her. She is great for our side but in my opinion not presidential material at all.
