When HUMAN EVENTS profiled Ann Marie Buerkles campaign for Congress in May, the candidate of the Republican and New York Conservative Parties in the Empire States 25th District (Syracuse) was a long shot, to say the least.
Freshman Democratic Rep. Dan Maffei, a past spokesman for the House Ways and Means Committee, was on his way to raising $1 million. Buerklenurse, attorney, and mother of six (and grandmother of eleven)had an impressive personal story, but was untested as a candidate.
In her one stint in elective officeappointed to fill a vacancy on the Syracuse City CouncilBuerkle had come under fire for her strong pro-life views and lost election for a full term. In this race, Buerkle had barely raised $100,000 by May.

New York ping
Another race has found its way onto the radar.
The NY-25 is less Republican than the NY-01, 13, 19, 20, 23, 24 or 29. So we’re running neck-and-neck in our *eighth* best takeover opportunity in NY.

I don’t know if this was mentioned in the article but Gov. Palin endorsed Ann Marie Buerkle right before her primary.
NY-25 has been on the Key House Races Master List since the beginning. Some experts have rated this race at least a Leans D since back in the spring. Buerkle is gaining strength.
Yes I’d say it’s been on the radar (personally though I didn’t think we’d have a good shot). But it’s true as Auh2o said that’s only the 8th best pickup chance.
NY hopefully will be joining PA and OH in delivering large gains.
