Poll Shows Romney And Palin As Front-Runners For GOP Nod In 2012

Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin have the strongest support among potential candidates for the Republican party's presidential nomination in 2012, according to the results of a Gallup poll released on Thursday, with strong showings also turned in by Mike Huckabee and Newt Gingrich.

The poll of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents showed that 19 percent support Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, while 16 percent support Palin, the former governor of Alaska and the GOP's vice presidential nominee in 2008.

Former Arkansas Governor Huckabee and former House Speaker Gingrich received the support of 12 percent and 9 percent, respectively, while Rep. Ron Paul, R-Tex., also has a notable following and is supported by 7 percent of those surveyed.

Less well known candidates such as Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, and Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., received less than 5 percent support.

Gallup noted that better-known candidates such as Romney and Palin tend to perform better in early tests of support for presidential nominations.

At the same time, the group said that Republicans have historically nominated the early front-runner as the party's presidential candidate.

Agreed. Romney is DOA because of Romneycare. Palin is formidable, Pence is presidential, Christie is electable if he runs but I don’t think he will.

I feel the same. When I see/hear his name - a smiling snake in the grass comes to mind. He’s the epitome of a politician - dirty, deceptive.

Palin is formidable

Palin is Presidential in every sense of the word.

Not convinced she will run but convinced she should run.

I agree, don't think Christie will run but would not be surprised IF Palin did run (she runs/she wins), she wouldn't snatch him for her admin some where. I like Pence and Ryan.

Amen. If they force Romney on us by manipulating the process like they usually do, especially given the fight to get rid of Obama care, I pray conservatives start their own party. I’m there.

. . . some are just more comfortable with Huckabee because of his gender.

You may be right. There's still a lot of myth out there that women can't perform because of emotionalism, that time of the month, etc., etc.

But it really depends on the woman.

I can't think of many men who could go through the wringer like Sarah has and still be standing tall.

Even Reagan and Bush Jr. didn't get the crap thrown at them which Sarah has. If that doesn't dispel all of those female under pressure stereotypes, then what will?

No, we definitely do not need any “gravitas.” We need someone that understands that everything that government has done for the last 100 years has to be undone post haste, and is willing and motivated to do it. That is why Palin is the only qualified candidate on the horizon. .
You are absolutely 100% correct.

As someone here in FR stated during the DE primary:

If 40 years of EXPERIENCE (and the consequent GRAVITAS that goes with that experience) leads one to vote for Cap'n'Trade, the Stimulus, and a whole host of ridiculous and stupid policy positions... then what good is EXPERIENCE (and the GRAVITAS that goes with it)?

Ans: Absolutely worthless.

As I and others have repeatedly pointed out, the MSM desperately wants RinoRomney to be the Republican nominee in 2012 as they know he will be the easiest to beat. The MSM will continue to push him as the leading contender, and it is imperative that he be exposed to the entire country for the fraud he is as soon as possible.

The proof that these "polls" are invalid, sampling
error, and paid for .... ...... is that the RomneyBOTs
are functionally disappearing. ....
Unable to say a positive and true statement about their candidate. …
.. Also, too busy supporting Obama, TARP, ObamaCARE,
sniping conservative GOP candidates, all the
while playing their own special "card".

Romney praises Obama again
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney praised President Obama
at a GOP fundraising dinner Wednesday ..
"I also think it's important for us to nod to the president when he's right," Romney said....
Romney, who spoke at a dinner for the National Republican Senatorial Committee,
said he's pleased with the president's plans to "finish the job" in Iraq and Afghanistan
-- lines that drew applause from the partisan audience. He also applauded the president
for standing up to the auto industry.
"I hope he continues to be tough ....The former businessman even offered faint praise for
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, saying that after a series of initial missteps,
"I think he's finally getting close to the right answer."
