Yeah, you read that right. May Sarah Palin get the 2012 GOP nomination. Putting her on the top of the ticket would be the best thing that could happen to the GOP, and here's why:
Unless Barack Obama totally blows the next two years, she would get waxed in a general election. Then she would be out of the way and the GOP can go about building a strong, broad coalition, the kind that can lead to a governing coalition.
I've more or less said that before about Palin, but reading her undermining of GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski's reelection bid in Alaska made me want to say it again. According to this New York Times story , Palin didn't like not Murkowski's father, who was Alaska's governor, appointing his daughter to the Senate seat he previously held. Not because Lisa Murkowski was particularly bad, but because Gov. Murkowski didn't appoint Sarah Palin, then an Alaskan mayor.
Now, I'm not an expert on Alaska's internal politics, so I don't if this story is 100 percent gospel. But it certainly tracks everything else we know about Palin. Namely, that she is good at division and appears largely in this for herself.
Before commenters go off calling me a typical Democrat, let me remind you that I voted for John McCain for president in 2008. And that meant, I voted for John McCain and Sarah Palin.
I confess she made it hard to pull the lever, but I did because I liked his more liberal Republicanism. And I thought he would be a debt-fighter.
But after watching her for the last two years, it seems pretty clear_that she's not in the big-tent category of Republicans. What's more, she is the sort of loose cannon that could really damage the party.

Based on his stellar performance to date gee what are the odds?
As if the latter in any way mitigated the former. ;)
I wonder how many times this butt head has been married...
No, we are busy changing the equation ~ no more Liberalism ~ it's a failed god.
Hahaha...how does that not mean he's a typical Democrat! I am betting a LOT of typical Dims voted for Juan.
Liked McCain’s liberal republicanism. Liberal republicanism??
Why don’t these people go drown themselves?
Why are you posting on FR? This is a conservative site or didnt you know that?
William McKenzie, repeat three times:
Sarah Palin is NOT Tina Fey.
Sarah Palin is NOT Tina Fey.
Sarah Palin is NOT Tina Fey.
The author is a fool.
Unfortunately, this will not be a choice on the menu. We will have the idiots at the RNC pick a cadavor who could not be elected as Dog Catcher in a small town. These are the same idiots who gave us Sen. Bob Dole and Juan McCain. Forgive me if I express my sincere questioning of the severe mental retardation obviously present in the RNC party leadership.
I hope the Tea Party forces the RNC to accept Sarah Palin; there are no noteworthy, electable alternatives.
I thot FR was Free Rino?
Sarah’s good at division? LOL! More like weeding out the RINO’s. And that makes the establishment not too happy.
The establishment put McCain as the GOP candidate - to lose to barry. The game is over!
Sarah can’t be controlled by the belt way and it’s getting uncomfortable for the little boys.
GO SARAH!
"didn't like not...?" What kind of English is that?
Unless, you say unless??? Bwaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!
Condi Rice? Why not Colin Powell while you’re at it? Or maybe we can clone Nelson Rockefeller or John Lindsay? Heck, how about Lindsey Graham or Charlie Crist? Is Meghan McCain old enough yet?!
You're a bit of a confusion to me.
Pro-choice Condi would get your vote, but Sarah won't?
