GOP aspirants will regret underestimating Palin
The New Haven Register ^ | July 27, 2010 | Roger Simon

MORE than 13 months ago, I wrote a column that began: “Sarah Palin can be the Republican nominee in 2012. I am not saying she will be, but she can be. Those who underestimate her do so at their own risk.”

I remember sniggering and mockery from those who could not find actual vegetables to throw.

As was widely believed at the time, Sarah Palin was an idiot. Her interview with CBS’ Katie Couric had proved that. And Palin’s approval rating as governor of Alaska, once so high, had plunged to 54 percent.

Palin was a gun-toting pit bull with lipstick, with a family that was portrayed as somewhere between a reality show and white trash.

More than a year later, I have not changed my mind about Palin’s political potential. This is not based on polls — especially one showing her in a 46 percent to 46 percent tie with President Barack Obama in a 2012 face-off. I don’t believe the polls tell us anything meaningful.

I am basing my belief on Palin’s ability to connect with the base of her party. Name a bigger name in the Republican Party today. Heck, name any name in the Republican Party today.

The most energized wing of her party, Republican tea party participants, have reason to like her. At a February tea party convention in Nashville, Tenn., Palin said, “America is ready for another revolution, and you are a part of this.” This set off one of many standing ovations.

Making fun of the president, Palin asked the crowd, “How’s that hope-y, change-y stuff working out for you?” She believed what the crowd believed: It wasn’t working out well.

I have no reason to believe she’s going to run, but if she doesn’t....we’re in for another milquetoast candidate. Let’s be honest, that’s all the GOP has in the wings right now.

I would hope Sarah (if she ran) could garner a better running mate than him.

Given this economy, Steve Forbes might get a shot at it.

Not sure how women will react to her as a Presidential candidate, it appears that she is trying to make strides with them.

Let me help you out of your quandary; Women, draw it out gracefully, W o m e n, love Sarah. Absolutely love her. Now the See You Next Tuesday crowd absolutely despises her.

If the two sides had equal weight you would have your quandary. Since most women are just that, the counterpart to men, Sarah winds the day, in that men love and respect her just as women love and respect her. Ha ha, the extreme minority of America is extremely loud but they are, he he, in the end, an extreme minority.

The girly adult males and the hairy females are having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that they are immature and all they know is false. The pendulum is swinging the other way now and they know that times are going to be quite bad for them in that they will no longer be able to pretend that they are part of polite society. I smile at the sunny days ahead.

Glad to help you out. God Bless America.

Palin has something more than intellect.
She has the ability to connect with and energize her party.

I really do think she's the complete package. I'm not just cheerleading. She has guts to tell the truth and to clean house (which she has already proven in Alaska).

And number 1....she doesn't want to destroy what our country was founded and based upon, she wants to preserve it (and us)

The word everyone is grasping for but is afraid to use is "Charisma." She has it. Nobody else does. That is why she is a force.

obama did not and does not have charisma. He had manufactured, staged rallies, like Hitler did, complete with fainting women(not). He will not be able to hold the vote against Sarah, any more than Jimmuh Carter was able to even stay on the field against Reagan. The only way obama can beat Sarah is to rig the election.

I agree with you. I truly believe and think she’s genuine and that’s why I so hate the news media that tried to destroy her and her family (not to say that they’ve ever let up).

Her patriotism and love of country is genuine and we already know she’s 100 percent pro-life. Like you said, she’s the complete package and I pray nightly for her, also for her safety and for the safety and well being of her precious family.

Good to see you!!!

She is not a tomboy but rather a lady who enjoys the outdoors. Substantial difference there.

Sarah Palin beats Saul Alinsky because her greatest strength is the foil to his greatest weakness.

There’s one thing that an Alinskyite can never be—whether it’s Obama, Hillary, Pelosi or any run of the mill democrat—they can never be sincere. They always have something to hide. Socialism excludes sincerity.

Sadly, this is also true of any politician who has savored the fruit of corruption—rinos in particular.

But Palin has always rejected corruption and she is always sincere. Not only does this trump Alinskyism absolutely, it throws the liberals off track because they just cannot comprehend it. Liberals can’t relate to sincerity because they don’t know what it is, therefore they can’t anticipate it in their enemies. They lose the game right there.

You could be right jla...but imo, from the videos I have studied, (one in particular where she is visiting troops..her body language, her stride is huge, she walks over to shake hands..very firm handshake..very confident), I think she is a tom-boy from her childhood hunting and basketball days. She throws her hair up, looks beautiful, and dives right in!

It’s cool..no insult at all, a very different female candidate than we have ever encountered. Unlike Thatcher or Hillary who come off as high-brow, more like Golda Meir of Israel.

Fearless is what I would call it, not timid at all.

Anyway, just my 2 cents!

The tactic of turning your enemy’s weapon against him ancient.

Having it done by a momma grizzly/pit bull with lipstick: Priceless!

What’s old is new again, and not a moment too soon.
