Palin: The Power And The Glory (Even Andrew Sullivan has to admit she won last night!)
The Atlantic ^ | June 9, 2010 | Andrew Sullivan

Those who believe that Sarah Palin has quit politics or does not have a future in elective office have some 'splaining to do. If she's irrelevant, why the following statements from last night:

"Her decision to get - and stay - involved in the race here in South Carolina was a huge boon to our campaign, because it caused a lot of South Carolinians to take a second look at a rising in the polls but once-little known state legislator who was fighting to give them back their government,” Haley spokesman Tim Pearson said of Palin. ...

“Governor Palin’s endorsement was integral to the success of our campaign,” Fiorina spokeswoman Julie Soderlund told POLITICO. “She provides the ‘good housekeeping seal of approval’ for conservative, outsider candidates. After earning her endorsement we saw an immediate spike in support for Carly amongst conservatives, who represent the vast majority of Republican primary voters.”

There was some hope that her recent endorsement misfires might signal a declining appeal with the base. Nuh-huh. She owns the GOP base. The most hopeful inference is that she wants to be a queen or king-maker - and not the queen herself. And that makes sense as long as you ignore every single thing she has ever done in her life and career.

At least this "man's man" isn't in denial like Dave Weigel over at the Washington Post. Of course Andy thinks it'll be the GOP's downfall that Governor Palin is their favorite, but I think a lot of pols and jourbalists are re-thinking that idea after last night. What say you?

I love Sarah, but I reject the notion of a King Maker.

Especially in light of some of her questionable endorsements.

Other than Senator McCain, which was a loyalty thing and therefore perfectly understandable, which “questionable endorsements” are you referring to?

So goes South Carolina, so goes the Republican nomination. Between this and Iowa, Sarah is setting herself up quite nicely for the 2012 primaries.

Especially in light of some of her questionable endorsements. - Agreed the MSM are laying off her at the moment for that reason. The only thing last night shows is that she can be manipulated ....eh I mean professionally guided by the GOP.

Well since you have already excused the McCain one, I guess we really can’t have a debate.

The Carly one wasn’t great, but I’m sure you have an excuse for that one too.

So nevermind. Sarah does no wrong.

What ever anyone on anyside of the opinion of Palin.. Palin seem to be a natural master of flanking tactics, Guerrilla/irregular politics...

I respect Sarah’s independent streak. I really think she has one.

But it is also clear that she is hedging for her own benefit.

And again, I despise the notion of ANYONE being King maker. Screw that!

How do you think it would look for her to backstab the man that trusted her enough to make her his running mate on a national ticket? And I never said she “did no wrong” as you put it. I know better. There’s only been one perfect human, and He was a Rabbi and carpenter in Roman-occupied Palestine, which is quite a ways from Alaska. We need to keep an eye out for a cult of personality like the 2008 Obama campaign, but what is wrong with Carly? Isn’t she pro-life, pro-gun and pro-defense? This is 2010, not 1966, and Ronald Reagan wouldn’t have a prayer in modern-day California, sad as that is.

I take a backseat to nobody in my dislike of John McCain.

If she made a promise to him when she was his running mate then the endorsement was nothing but a promise kept, plain and simple.

I hate Carly for what she did to the venerable HP. That said; how bad do you want to see Boxer unseated? Would any of the other GOP candidates have had a snowballs chance in Hell, in Beating her?

Look, I don’t know, I’m a Midwestern boy, so I don’t have a direct dog in that hunt, but it seems to me that fielding the best GOP candidate that has a chance of beating Boxer, is better than fielding one who doesn’t right now.

We gotta take control of Congress back from the dems. That is priority one right now. Otherwise no amount of conservative wishing is going to stem the destruction of our country.

I don’t think she should have endorsed JD either. Frankly, he is a blowhard, and I don’t know why so many FReepers are supportive of another Big Gov Republican like him.

Sarah should have just sat on the sidelines and promoted liberty, NOT candidates. Two more RINOs in the Senate are not going to derail Obama.

Well said about the Perfect One of Nazareth.

Especially in light of some of her questionable endorsements.

I think the message she sent to the Tea Party contingent was basically that she agrees with the underlying principles they do, but she is not beholden to the movement and will make her political decisions herself.

Now it's up to anybody who supports the Tea Party movement to decide whether or not that's good enough to earn their support in future political endeavors.
