Assemblyman Chuck DeVore is running last in the polls, but he figures there's a way he might actually eke out a victory in Tuesday's GOP Senate primary.
"I think it all comes down to turnout," DeVore told reporters during a conference call this afternoon.
And if turnout is low, as expected, DeVore said it could help him because his supporters are passionate.
"Voter intensity is key,"

He’s right. If no one else turns out except his supporters, he’ll win. That’s about the only way...
No about about it.
Fiorina and Campbell don’t have a prayer of beating Boxer.
We’ll turn out tomorrow to vote for DeVore.
He gave SacBee a headache at the Pro Israel ralley:

If he can’t win much overall support to gain the Republican nomination, what chance would he have against Boxer?
It’s a non sequitur.
I’d be thrilled if CA were more conservative but it simply isn’t.
Fiorina is another McCain, and Tom Campbell is as dumb as a stump. Boxer isn’t too smart either, but she’ll win easily against those two.
And DeVore could carry the major population centers of LA and the Bay?
Only in a parallel universe.
Sad to say, I share your pessimism wrt Boxer getting re-elected.
Brain cells weren’t handed out on anything approaching an equal per capita basis here in CA.
Well turn out tomorrow to vote for DeVore.
The election is not against Boxer. If we run against Boxer, we lose. The election is against Obama’s policies and we had better nominate someone who is actually opposed to them or they won’t stand a chance of winning.
Even LA voted GOP last time, even if it was for Arnold.
Too many people in California either get handouts from the state, work for the state, or have union contracts. Not sure if that’s lack of brain cells so much as laziness and greed.
Until that changes, a hardline conservative will not win a statewide race.
That’s simply the reality of the situation here.
That said, I do think Boxer is vulnerable to apathy on the left and a decent candidate on the right.
Hardly a true conservative - hence why I say DeVore couldn’t carry LA and the bay area. Not even sure about San Diego anymore.
I agree with you, I’m only wallowing in my own pessimism.
In some ways, I have given up my optimism that anything can be achieved in CA; in favor a viewpoint that perhaps it would be better to even further entrench a liberal goverment in CA so as to hasten what I view as an inevitable outcome. My opinion that the mathematics to solve CAs’ problems do not exist is MUCH stronger than my ephemeral optimism that a teeny Repub/Conservative minority can do *anything* given the corruption and patronage system in place.
In short, I’m genuinely a nihilist wrt CA. I believe the system cannot be corrected, I believe it must crash and burn.
I want some of what he's drinking...
We’re well on our way to becoming Greece and the ticking time bomb of the underfunded state pension plans will surely push us over the edge.
And just like the Greeks, any mention of cuts to state employees God-given right to be overpaid for doing virtually nothing productive will send them into the streets to riot. Not to mention those on the dole who are only slightly less productive.
And yet I still live here. Must be the weather and the view.
Why would anyone vote for Fiorina or Campbell when they could have the same thing with Boxer AND have her seniority, too. You want change? Vote DeVore.
Fiorina and Campbell dont have a prayer of beating Boxer.
Chuck who?
Contrary to opinion, being the better conservative doesn’t make you more electable and that’s certainly true in CA.
Too many in this state (and country) want the drug that Big Government promises them, irregardless of the harm it does or whether it even delivers.
