GOP strategist: 'If Sarah Palin endorsed me I would be too embarrassed to tell anyone'
The Washington Post's Right Now ^ | May 21, 2010 | David Weigel

On Wednesday, California Republican strategist and Yolo County supervisor Matt Rexroad loaded up Facebook and put up a short complaint about U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina's embrace of Sarah Palin.

The awkward part of this? Rexroad is a managing partner of Meridian Pacific, Inc., a strategy firm hired by... Carly Fiorina. While Rexroad doesn't work on that account, the Fiorina campaign paid Meridian Pacific $31,509.88 for consulting and travel in the first quarter of 2010. Reached by phone, Rexroad stood by the post and stuck up for his colleagues working for Fiorina.

"I hope it's not a big deal!" he laughed. "I support Carly and I'll be voting for her, and I think she's going to win. But from my point of view, I don't know how you quit as the governor of your state and get taken seriously. I have a client this cycle who tells me I should keep this to myself, but it's my opinion. Look at Ross Perot -- he was rock star for a while, and then after a while people said, hey, he's kind of crazy."

Rexroad's somewhat heretical take on Palin gets at the disconnect that a lot of Republican strategists feel between the former governor's political influence and her role as a serious figure. At the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, Palin got, by far, the best reception of any possible 2012 candidate who took the stage. But she came in third in the straw poll, and plenty of Republicans told reporters that they hesitated to back her because they didn't think she could handle the job of president yet.(continued)

Not to belabor the point, but Matt was a behind the scenes operative for the GOP in CA for a number of years, within the last ten years. As a lead staffer, he was pretty influential, and could be part of the reason the GOP is in such bad shape in the state.

One has to be either intellectually dishonest or profoundly stupid to not recognize why Palin resigned. The Alinsky left was making up “ethical” complaints which was costing Alaska money and was defunding the Palin family (which I believe was their strategy). Her decision to resign so Alaska would not have to deal with these “ethical” complaints as much plus Palin could take a stand nationally for this movement we’ve seen sweep the nation in the past year was quite frankly pure genius. The fact that a republican strategist cannot see that simply reinforces my decision to trake every letter I can from the RNC and place it in my circular file (if you know what I mean).

I saw people here in the midwest vote who had never voted before go to rallies like he was a rock star.

They were so proud to get involved in politics and absolve themselves of “white guilt” all at the same time.

Substance may be hard to define but it is so easy to recognize if your eyes have been opened.

Well, that makes sense. If he had influence, he has to bear some responsibility. Thanks again, for the information. Now, I don’t like him at all.

That’s another thing: white guilt. The same Hollywood libs I know of and they don’t have a single non-white friend in their circle, and they lecture ME about multiculturalism. I hate liberals and their hypocrisy. If I wasn’t in business with them, I would’ve strangled most of them by now..

Some of the people making comments on the story at WaPo seem to know him pretty well, too.

And yet there are idiots here on FreeRepublic parroting this selfsame attack by the Extreme Left.

Go Figure!

Establishment Republicans working hard to try to lose elections. They loathed Ronald Reagan and now despise Sarah Palin, because they WON elections.

Nobody want to be slammed or ridiculed. When the left aims their derision at SP or other conservative leaders there is a tendency to duck or retreat. No one wants to associate with a loser; by the same token people tend to pile on a bandwagon when a winner is obvious, so that they can be seen to have been “right”.

Sarah connects with average people who may not have college degrees. They make up the bulk of our citizenry.

To say she resonates with your value system is to say you may not be an “intellectual”.

God has chosen the foolish things to confound the wise. “Professing themselves to be wise they became fools.” Romans 1:22

Same thing was said about Reagan. Of course, the establishment Repubs didn’t like him either. He was the people’s choice...the establishment is too wrapped up in the whole “we know best” crap.

Word.

Eventually there will be a third party in this country made up of people who are tired of the elites from both sides telling us what we are thinking and trying to figure out why they can't predict what we do and why.

Got news for them, it's pretty simple, the elite and the talking heads are so far out of touch with normal people that they might was well be from another country.

Ya made me look! I spotted one from Yolo that slammed him for being a full-out RINO who loves to vote with democrats and another that says he’s attached to the scandal-ridden DA. So much for Matt Rexroad.

GOP strategist are why the Republicans lost their majority in Congress and the White House.

And if GOP strategist have their way, the Democrats will keep control of both Houses of Congress in 2010 and will keep the Presidency in 2012.

In short, GOP strategists are the best friend that the Democrat Party ever had.

Sarah connects with pro-Americans. Sarah connects with common sense people - something you don’t get with a degree. I know PhD, MD’s, many professionals, blue collar and hourly workers - some are for her and others not sure. But with each one, I’m not surprised. Common sense is the key and not degrees.

Jerry Ford resented Reagan almost as much as Carter does.
