Top GOP stars shine for Meg Whitman

National Republican leaders lined up behind GOP gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman at a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser Friday night, with stars such as U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz joining Whitman on the stage of the Sofitel Hotel in Redwood City.

The event, however, hit a few bumps before it got started, with a running protest organized by the California Nurses Association crashing the fundraiser.

Dozens of demonstrators, many wearing blond wigs modeled after Whitman's cut, surprised the well-dressed attendees by descending from the hotel's elevators and approaching within feet of the ballroom's doors, observers said.

Many of the same protesters, led by Los Angeles teacher and actress Elaine Burn who was dressed as Queen Meg, had also protested outside a Whitman fundraiser in Sacramento this afternoon and at another Whitman fundraiser in Beverly HIlls last night. This was the first time they made it into the venue of the fundraiser.

All was calm by the time the event got under way inside the ballroom where the guests outdid each other in praising Whitman. For her part, Whitman called both McCain and Shultz, individually, "a great American and great patriot."

Romney lauded the virtues of examining state budgets as if they were corporate balance sheets and cutting waste. He also lambasted what he said were Sacramento's anti-business ways.

"California politicians have smothered the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation," Romney said.

Bush talked about how he had implemented more testing and accountability in Florida schools, and said Whitman would do the same in California.

"I know she has the fortitude, the determination, the skill and the leadership to stay the course and take on the adults in the system,"

One more bit of proof, as if we needed it, that Romney’s “conservatism” is a complete fraud. McCain too.

Meg Whitman is a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, leftist.

Those RINO stones may sparkle, but they’re fake.

The LGBT community does not like Meg due to her support of Prop 8, I thought that was good for the conservative base here?

Im voting Poziner because Meg is more squishy and I dont want Arnold’s third term.

Maybe Steve will govern California like the old Arnold before he turned into a Gray Davis clone.

That “Fundraiser” looks a lot like a RINO CONVENTION

Poizner is no conservative either.

The CA GOP is a wasteland.

Meg Whitman is a vocal supporter of Abortion.

Which do you think is more important to the conservative base, Murder of babies, or Gay Marriage?

Murder of babies. Im actually the opposite of Meg Whitman. I find abortion abhorrent and repugnant and should be illegal. Im actually anti-abortion, and for the repeal of 8.

I find Meg’s advocacy for taxpayer funding of abortion sick and wrong.

Poizner is no conservative, but he understands the sensiblities of the base of the Republican Party.

I was hoping someone like Peter Foy would run. A farm team will likely be needed for the future.

She is also a gun grabber.

As a long-time eBay seller, I can also state that she was a pain in the ass when she ran eBay, too, angering sellers with her constant non-sensical and costly changes.

This state is toast. If Arnold didn't have the balls to dismantle the unions and go after spending and illegals, what makes one think Whitman will? All she'll do is continue the status-quo.

The only logical option for CA is to divide up into several states. Let the unions and illegals and gangbangers have their own state to piss away, and let the productive return their portion of CA to what it used to be.

Even assuming that is true (which I don’t think it is), her two main rivals — Jerry Brown and Steve Poizner — are both “pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, leftist.” Take your pick. At least Whitman knows how to run something and actually IS a fiscal conservative. That is what CA needs to save it. Social issues won’t save CA right now, but slashing budgets, cutting taxes and bringing businesses back might.

Invariably, those who will sell the babies to death will compromise away anything and everything. It always happens. Wake up.

If anyone is “tilting at windmills” it’s conservatives who empower liberal candidates just because they have a meaningless R by their name.

By the way, nothing will change until conservatives stop doing that.
