Bush I was "nest in line" in 1980 but Reagan bumped him.If Reagan had not made the deal with him for VP the party probably would have come apart at that point because it was Bush's Turn and the Republican poobahs would have opposed Reagan after the Nomination or just not supported him while sneering at "the actor." That attitude gave us the resounding thud of GEH Bush's presidency, Clinton's presidency and GWB who was a disaster for the country economically in that he paved the way for Soetoro and initiated the government $hovelouts so that it would be much easier for his successor to bankrupt the country.

I agree with the observation that the country is ruled alternately by the Criminal Party and the Stupid Party.
