Playing right into Obama's hands
Myself | 09/08/09 | Matthew Council

Obama's recent AFLCIO speech was too good for conservative talk radio to pass up. As was his national address to public school students. You know that old saying.... If it seems to good to be true it is.

It was all a big setup. Obama will use the negativity about his education speech to paint a fear mongering picture of anyone who opposes his Healthcare Plan. He set his position up, "purposefully"at the AFLCIO picnic yesterday by saying (loosely quoted) "The special interests are using fear to prevent reform from happening". He knew that nobody could pass up an opportunity to point out that the AFLCIO is a special interest group that has a long history of fear mongering. Obama got a lot of free press from the conservative media with that sound bite.

He also knew that the secrecy which surrounded his address to students would result in an uprising by parents. Countless schools reported parent complaints parents keeping their children out of school and parents requesting that their children be excused from viewing Obama's address.

Long story short.... His speech was a positive pep talk to students about the importance of staying in school, getting good grades and not giving up. Good clean and wholesome.... Short sweet and to the point with no apparent political agenda. All warm a fuzzy. Kinda like a Gremlin....

Unfortunately, he can now use the negative press and subsequent boycotts of his address as an example of the fear mongering that surrounds his Healthcare Plan. Will it work? To answer that question one must look no further than the PAS principle.

A lose-lose situation for our side. If we say nothing, I bet the speech would have been different. Since we called his hand, he got to change the cards.

But one thing remains: the questions in the work sheets do not match the content of the speech. There was nothing in the final speech that the children could "help him" on.

No, it was more than that: it was a forked-tongue pitch that was completely contrary to his every policy.

And anybody who bothers to think about it will see it for just that.

It simply exposes him further to be a silver-tongued devil.

Obama, is a non issue.

Infact, you don’t even have to mention his name. By simply attacking the members of Congress who want the Public Option, that by default brings up Obama.

The less Obama is mentioned, the less he can play his cards. It isn’t about him, but 2010.

No problem with the fact that Obama sounded like a classic populist stirring up a mob in his remarks to the thug union audience.

The AFL/CIO serves the role the Hell's Angels did at Altamont for Obama at every public they're ordered to, and Obama was playing their easily manipulated hostility.

That should be evident to anyone who hears any of the speech who isn't a KoolAid addict.

So, let me see if I have this right; Obama who used the Post Office as an example of profitable free enterprise is going to setup or sell the public to how well Government Schools are run and the product they produce, in spite of opposition to his Marxist beliefs?

I do believe that his school speech was for public consumption, however, it was intended for identity politics among those that are located in areas where Alensky, Farrakhan, Ayers, Van Jones and ACORN types draw their support…there is a possibility that this is part of the long march to a “Progressive Citizen Army.”

Having read the speech Obama was forced to give in order to prove his critics wrong, I find it hard to believe his far left supporters aren’t royally pissed at him once again, because they don’t believe half of what he said, with his message of accountability and responsibility, his statement that anybody can raise themselves out of their circumstance.

The left preaches that only Government can save you, and Obama is preaching that you can save yourself. That has to hurt.

Yeah, that worked really well in the past...

I think he's using what Dick Morris used for Clinton....the "Matador Gambit".

It means keep your opponents wasting time and credibility going after the cape instead of the matador.

Today's "cape" was Zero's school speech.

A lose-lose situation for our side???

What planet are you on? Been reading DU today?

Anybody paying any attention to the speech knows this was a conservative victory. Parents around the nation organized and emailed their schools and protested this campaign speech directed at getting our children to pledge support to Obama.

Obama had no choice but to retreat and deliver this lame duck speech.

“...he got to change the cards”. Yes. And all America saw him dealing from the bottom of the deck.

“Having read the speech Obama was forced to give in order to prove his critics wrong,”

The SPEECH was NEVER the problem...the problem was what the O Administration was suggesting teachers so AFTER the speech:

Post QUOTES from Obama around the classroom...you know, like North Korea does with KIM....like Cuba does with Castro.

And, they suggested having they students make written statements of how the could help OBAMA...not help the COUNTRY, but help OBAMA...THAT was the problem.

You’d have to be a complete dolt not to know that the pResident’s speech was changed after the uproar about it. THis is what his handlers do. Always pushing the envelope, trying to dig the tenacles of control deeper. Had there not been real people with real concern, his speech would have been all and more than we’d feared.

Sorry, but I disagree. The so-called warm-and-fuzzy speech wasn't released until yesterday, why? Because it needed to be scrubbed. The teaching materials that were to be "suggested" were scrubbed. These are both wins by conservatives.

The mere fact that there was so much protest in such a short period of time over this speech to the school children by parents only proves that more and more people don't trust this louse.

Sorry, but I disagree with your premise.

Parents cannot take a chance putting their children in questionnable situations. Like an inappropriate movie, once seen or heard, it is too late to “take it back.” No one can doubt that he changed the speech (see below about supporting materials) from it’s initial concept.

His speech could/should be used to oppose all the government programs that DON’T encourage self-reliance the type of programs that he has consistently advocated for thru his legislation—which is basically establishment of aEuropean nanny state at best.

It was and from what I read STILL IS, the SUPPORTING CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES THAT are problematic. His quotes on the wall in large print. Yikes! Lifted out of the pages of the North Korean Dear Leader or Mao.

Oh, and how many times did he use word “I” in the speech? It was all about him. One of those bogus lectures like you hear from full-of-themselves people how they “marched up hill in snow both ways to and fron school.” Not possible....and his mythical childhood stories about how he had to make due have been debunked as well.

First day of school is hard enough to establish routines without wasting time with his “master of obvious speech”.

I don’t think many fell for it; at least I hope not.

I hope you're right, but I fear that by the end of the week the MSM will have turned us into paranoid loonies.

I don't read DU and most people don't read, hear or watch conservative news. I know FNC owns the cable news market, but most don't follow news channels...they hear what they hear while they are waiting for the weather and sports at the end of the local newscast.

BS. We won, we stopped a subversive speech to our children(he changed the speech from subversive to relatively harmless), we stopped the communistic letter writing children were supposed to do after the speech, and we showed the communists bas***** we aren’t going to allow them to speak directly to our children. Anyone who says we looked like fools remind them that in 2001 Bush was ostracized for speaking to ONE school and the demwits pushed for a congressional investigation, but now if Bozo wants to talk to the whole country(breaking the law in the process because he didn’t go through the correct channels)it is just fine and dandy and conservatives are jerks. I say again, BS and you are full of it.

Precisely. It was nothing more than the President setting a good example for our youth. A nice gesture for the President to take time out of his busy schedule to encourage kids to work hard.

Look at his entire campaign. Obama was a Judo master. In Judo many offensive moves are begun by causing your opponent to lose their balance, either leaning forward or backward. You do this by providing them with a false opening so they go on the offensive. Then you use their ambitious momentum against them to get them off balance.

Jeremiah Wright, RESCO, Joe the Plumber and his Muslim heritage were false openings that were too good to pass up. Obama knew that every focus group showed that the vast majority of people (on the fence) were tired of candidates bashing each other. All he had to do was sidestep the issues and deliver a speech that contained a new plan.

Not at all. I would stop jumping on every false opportunity and stay focused on the facts. In other words maintain a focused effort to keep the facts in the public eye.

So, according to your logic... it’s best we don’t say anything at all...because it will only back fire on us in the long run.
