From January 1995 to December 2002, Gary Johnson served as the Governor of the State of New Mexico, and was the first governor in the history of New Mexico to be elected for two consecutive four year terms. He was ranked among the nation's seven top governors in each of the Cato Institute's fiscal report cards between 1996 and 2002. Under Gov. Johnson's administration, New Mexico experienced the longest period without a tax increase in the state's history, the rate of growth in the state government was cut in half, half of the state's prisons were privatized, state Medicaid was shifted to managed care, and the state was left with approximately one thousand fewer employees (with no firings) and a budget surplus. Gov. Johnson vetoed 750 bills (which was more than all the vetoes of the other 49 Governors in the country at that time, combined), which earned him the nickname Gary "Veto" Johnson.
Gov. Johnson is not only a conservative but he has a proven track record during his two terms in New Mexico of SHRINKING government, cutting budgets, reforming healthcare, introducing a voucher system for schools.
Sounds like a perfect candidate in 2012...
what say you, freepers?
There's a few issues like he says he is personally pro-choice but was endorsed by the right to life committee for his bans on partial-birth abortion and Medicaid-funded abortion which means he supports States on abortion.
He is also a Ron Paul fan and the only GOP Governor not to endorse George W. Bush which made him an outcast with the Establishment. I dont see that as a bad thing and would help him in an election against Obama. He's also libertarian on drugs, again though this isn't an issue as he would be support States rights.
SO on the balance I don't see how he isn't a bad candidate, much more appealing than Palin to a general electorate too and from his time in New Mexico shows he can win big in Democrat areas which will need to be cracked to take the Presidency off Obama and his organizing zombie like drones, no way would Palin do that.
He really does have a great record if you can see past his potential faults.
he won two terms in a democrat state, ergo democrats liked him and voted for him
Tent compounds in the Mojave desert and make them grow their own food.
Make it miserable enough, like 2 years for a 1st offense, and the criminal element would be greatly reduced in a short period of time.
There would always be a few like a cousin of mine that except for my aunt blowing a fortune on lawyers would be doing 25 to life where he belongs.
No, it will not. If you want to pimp your candidate try real hard to be factual instead of demagogic. That you made the statement above indicates you have no knowledge at all of the facts and instead are mindlessly regurgitating the latest Libertine talking points.
Freepers will listen to sane rational debate, we don't want to hear the same sort of hyper hysteric demagoguery the Left routinely engages in from people, supposedly, on our side.
This is where you Libertines continually fail. You simply cannot make a sane rational argument instead you use the same debate tactics of the Leftists. You use the same hyper emotive, factually ignorant demagoguery in place of sane rational debate of facts.
the Left are in power (all branches of government) and expanding the war and war funding
so neocon Freepers support Obama and the dumbocrats because they will keep their precious war on the road but they won’t support a candidate who pledges to end them and sort out the mess in Washington.
to neocon freepers the war is the #1 ISSUE nevermind unemployment, the economy, the deficit, an expansionist government, healthcare takeover (started in Bush). it’s just WAR WAR WAR that matters
FACTS matter, the FACT that you are so willing to simply IGNORE the facts to scream slogans about "Saving trillions" indicates you have utterly NO intellectual credibility and are merely a mindless propaganda bot.
I dont know the exact figures but its a good start is it not. wars are expensive and the Dems are expanding the afghan effort, no one has ever conqeured that land and how many years ago was it when Bush declared ‘mission accomplished’ in Iraq? how much has been spent since then?
In fact, if you really want your guy to be taken seriously, have him come out and make priority one of his campaign forcing Congress to restrict appropriations bills to a single topic, not using defense bills as a dump basin for all spending wishes they have that they cannot get enough votes to get passed by the normal legislative process./p> Many state legislatures operate under this rule and it works just fine.
Ironic isn't it? Obama's closest allies on foreign policy include assorted birthers and other folks who bash him (properly) for expanding government in other contexts.
Hunter supported No Child Left Behind and the prescription drugs boondogle. He’s also a shameless promoter of pork barrel spending.
Sorry I had to rant a bit here.
To those against Johnson for being pro-life. 12 Years of Bushes in the 90’s and 2000-2008. What was accomplished on the federal level again?
To those against Johnson for being for legalization of pot. 80 years of fighting the evil weed. Are we any closer to being rid of it or have we just made it more profitable of a crop?
I admit I am concerned about his ability to protect our oil supply via the US military. Do we really need soldiers in 150 different countries? We have been fighting the good fight against butt heads like Chavez and other totalitarian, authoritarian regimes. Hell we elected Chavez’s brother/mentor to lead out country. What is left to fight for if we elect the worst frkken Marxist we’ve ever seen as POTUS?
What do we get for projecting our might around the world? A relentless stream of hate, and wealth envy for the most part. Very few countries appreciate what we have done to promote a stable and prosperous world economy. We are now about to bring the world economy to a tremendous crash due to our voting in arsehole socialist Republicans and Democrats who think that we can run deficits to infinity and everything will be just peachy.
I’m not seeing Republicans that are saying the right things. They seem to be saying “elect us and we’ll slow the train down” It’s still going in the same direction, just slower.
It is not going to be pretty to clean up the mess we have left for our children. It is going to be the biggest challenge we have ever attempted. We are talking massive removal of the Statists that are our representatives. Massive cuts in government are needed and people are going to have a fit.
We are spoiled children used to getting our way. I can here some of you saying “By god we paid that money into SS and by god were going to get it back or we’re going to stretch some necks.”
Let ME tell it to you. YOU HAVE BEEN SCAMMED. YOU’RE NOT GOING TO GET THE MONEY BACK. When we have promised to pay close to 100 trillion dollars with Medicare, Medicaid, SS federal state and local pensions for government workers, something is going to have to give. There isn’t enough wealth to tax to make up this shortfall even at 100% confiscation. It isn’t there. You have been lied to and sold into slavery to the state.
Wake up and help turn the barsturds out of office. We need someone that will tell it like it is. See any Republicans willing to do this? Or should we elect another middle of the road Republican that will lie to the American people and tell them what they want to hear so as to get elected?
LOL!! Like the elephant Groucho saw in his pajamas. "How he got in my pajamas I'll never know."
Well said.
They said Reagan was too conservative. Obama is already tanking with independents.
From what I’ve read about him, I would support him above everyone else in the field.
the biggest irony is that big government conservatives sucked so much and were so obsessed with wars etc they delivered the Dems their congressional majorities and now they’re going to use them to establish state sponsored abortions
In some ways it isn't an irony. Those neo-cons who put their first priority on more overseas meddling (don't all of them?) actually got their way because of the election of Obama. He is turning out to be MORE pro-war than Bush and, unlike Bush, Obama can count on almost unquestioning support from the party across the aisle when it comes foreign policy.
