From January 1995 to December 2002, Gary Johnson served as the Governor of the State of New Mexico, and was the first governor in the history of New Mexico to be elected for two consecutive four year terms. He was ranked among the nation's seven top governors in each of the Cato Institute's fiscal report cards between 1996 and 2002. Under Gov. Johnson's administration, New Mexico experienced the longest period without a tax increase in the state's history, the rate of growth in the state government was cut in half, half of the state's prisons were privatized, state Medicaid was shifted to managed care, and the state was left with approximately one thousand fewer employees (with no firings) and a budget surplus. Gov. Johnson vetoed 750 bills (which was more than all the vetoes of the other 49 Governors in the country at that time, combined), which earned him the nickname Gary "Veto" Johnson.
Gov. Johnson is not only a conservative but he has a proven track record during his two terms in New Mexico of SHRINKING government, cutting budgets, reforming healthcare, introducing a voucher system for schools.
Sounds like a perfect candidate in 2012...
what say you, freepers?
There's a few issues like he says he is personally pro-choice but was endorsed by the right to life committee for his bans on partial-birth abortion and Medicaid-funded abortion which means he supports States on abortion.
He is also a Ron Paul fan and the only GOP Governor not to endorse George W. Bush which made him an outcast with the Establishment. I dont see that as a bad thing and would help him in an election against Obama. He's also libertarian on drugs, again though this isn't an issue as he would be support States rights.
SO on the balance I don't see how he isn't a bad candidate, much more appealing than Palin to a general electorate too and from his time in New Mexico shows he can win big in Democrat areas which will need to be cracked to take the Presidency off Obama and his organizing zombie like drones, no way would Palin do that.
He really does have a great record if you can see past his potential faults.
I really have doubts as to whether he’s all that gung ho for 2012. I know he has said in the past he might be interested, but he seems to be having way too much fun just having fun ~ mountain climbing all over the world and lots of other very physical pursuits. I think he’s enjoying retirement but I could be wrong.
Yes, and as I said in my post, BOTH embassies were attacked in Iraq and Afghanistan under Bush, hence you are hoist by your own petard.
Unfortunatly, and realistically, I’m pretty sure Bob Dole II (most likely Romney) will emerge from the RINOpublican primaries to give us 4 more years of Obumbles.
By the fact that, despite the perfect thing to rally against, the Conservative movement still cannot come together and agree. Johnson is out there and, at this very moment, doesn't have the 'star power' to win. However, a well oiled campaign machine could change that fairly easily. The only thing necessary is for Conservatives to realize they must unite, or face losing to the messiah in 2012. IMHO.
If it is murder, should the woman who has an abortion be given the death penalty?
Libertarian ping
No.
I'm gonna quote you on that.
Why support a pro-abortion RINO?
Hunter/Palin 2012!
Pot users belong in prison not the white house!
just sign up here to push your druggie?
and didn’t Johnson practice what he preached as a State governor? he was endorsed by right to life for using his powers to restrict abortions
but big government proponents who expand the state and bankrupt the nation are fine.
Johnson can beat Obama in Democrat state
So, what, he's willing to tear the babies apart limb from limb himself?
He was the Governor of New Mexico for 8 years. 8 years without a tax increase. 1000 fewer employees in NM state government at the end of his term. He has started and run his own business and grew it to a thousand employees.

How many thousands of prisons will that take and where are you going to find the money to build them?
