There's a new leader at the top of the Minnesota Republican Party.
State Republicans chose Tony Sutton, a Twin Cities businessman and active GOP party member as its leader at a gathering in Brooklyn Center Saturday. Sutton replaces Ron Carey, who is stepping down from the post.
Sutton served on numerous campaigns and Republican committees on both state and national levels. He most recently served as secretary-treasurer of the Minnesota Republican Party. He is also the CEO of Minnesota-based Baja Sol Restaurant Group.
Radio talk show host Dave Thompson and former state Sen. Carrie Ruud also sought the post.
The position is being filled as the party looks ahead to an important 2010 election cycle. The governor's office, eight congressional seats and the full Legislature are on the line.
Saturday's gathering included remarks by Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who has 18 months left in his final term. Delegates also heard from Norm Coleman, who remains in legal limbo over the U.S. Senate seat.
So another RINO won a chairmanship in a state that is in free-fall for the GOP ?
Sutton is no good?
I prefer some new blood and new ideas. Not a return to what got us into this mess. Dave’s an up and comer with solid conservative ideas...
