Boxer has big lead over potential GOP Senate challengers in poll

U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer has a comfortable lead over potential Republican challengers for her job in 2010, including Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, though voters are divided in their enthusiasm for her re-election, according to a Field Poll released Thursday.

In a hypothetical matchup against Schwarzenegger, who will leave the Governor's Office in January 2011, Democrat Boxer leads by 54 percent to 30 percent, the poll found. The Republican governor has never said publicly that he plans to run for another political office.

That marks a drop for Schwarzenegger from the October 2007 Field Poll, when the governor had a 44 percent to 43 percent advantage.

"It's his job performance rating, which is near his all-time low," said Field Poll Director Mark DiCamillo. "The budget delay didn't win anybody any points."

Boxer leads potential GOP candidate and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, 55 percent to 25 percent. Fiorina spoke last month at the California Republican Party convention and last year at the Republican National Convention, though she has not announced her intentions regarding the Senate race.

In a hypothetical GOP primary, Schwarzenegger leads with 31 percent support, followed by Fiorina at 24 percent and Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, R-Irvine, at 9 percent. Without Schwarzenegger, Fiorina leads DeVore, 31 percent to 19 percent.

Don’t believe it. If they weren’t worried, this wouldn’t have been ‘news.’

Tea Parties in California should consider holding some posters asking voters to Vote Republican. Or at least against Boxer.

The only path to unseating Babs in CA is with someone who has higher name recognition, a clear, principled message and a spotless record. Or, as you suggest, a celeb! Ronald Reagan was both. We can’t expect (or wait) to find his like again.

Boxer, Schwarzenegger, Fiorina — all bad choices, IMO.

I’ll be working to elect Chuck DeVore.

The CA GOP seems to be trying to bury him, just like they’ve done with McClintock in past years.

I can’t think of a more brain-fried Democrat than Boxer. She has all the IQ of fertilizer.

Tom Selleck has name recognition. He’s Republican and a member of the NRA.

Can my Boxer run against Barbara Boxer?

Qualifications:
My Boxer is smarter
My Boxer is better looking
My Boxer isn't mean, greedy, or selfish
My Boxer likes everyone
My Boxer is a natural born US citizen and has papers to prove it and won't file lawsuits to keep from producing said birth papers
My Boxer is conservative (won't accept food that is bought with debt)

Whaddya think?

Boxer will have karma to pay for all the ills she threw into our Golden State. I detest the witch. Boot the fraud out.

It’s like an IQ test for California.
Which appears to be stuck on stupid.

I love McClintock! he’s one smart guy and so dead on about the ill-vised libs in CA. We just need to ORGANIZE MUCH, MUCH better in 2010. We have learned a vital lesson.

I would vote for Boxer above Schwarzenegger; anything to keep that socialist disaster from infecting the GOP worse than he already has.
