This is looking uglier & uglier:
Obama/Biden 353 McCain/Palin 185

C’mon. The RCP electoral college numbers are based on averages of the polls they collect. The Quinnipiac poll results, which are ridiculous, put Barry ahead in Ohio and Florida. Meanwhile, some other outfits put out weird results in other states. And because RCP runs with the averages, they lean toward Barry. Gosh.
Someone on here earlier said Zogby came out with polls today showing McCain ahead by several points in VA, CO, and I think even PA. Doesn’t sound quite right but I have not seen this headline anywhere else. Not that Zogby is all that accurate. But numbers are numbers. I wonder if that report was an error, or if perhaps our fellow FR members was quoting old polls.
McCain’s not a bad debater or communicator. Palin on the other hand and I hate to say it, hasn’t done so great. . . A VP pick should be out there blasting the other side and competently presenting his running mate’s position. I think Pawlenty or perhaps Hutchison would have been better at doing that. . . I remember thinking what a bad pick Cheney was for Bush, uninspiring, boring. . . but he did everything a VP candidate needed to do and more. He really made a great case in the debate against Lieberman. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow night.
We survived Carter.
We survived Clinton.
We can survive Obama.
If the economy is in turmoil hard t believe the public with go with inexperience BUT who knows what panic will do to people
Better Obama than Hillary.
How to tell if the polls are real...
1. Watch the Candidate. McCain is all over the place. What does he stand for? The largest bailout in the history of government....a plan that federalizes the nations financial sector. A plan the vast majority of Americans are against...and they say conservatism is dead. Nope not dead...just dead among our politicians.
2. Watch the Opponent. He’s not running to the center...he’s running to the left. That is his safety net. He knows his internal polling is showing the same thing...probably a solid lead in all the swing states
3. Watch the Media. They are acting like it’s a done deal. Listen..they want Obama elected first and foremost. They have invested everything in the 8 years of George Bush to elect a democrat in 2008. They know full well Obama is running away with this thing and they are in orgasmic mode.
Rush Limbaugh has always said the reason the left fails is because they can not ask the honest questions as to why they failed. When was the last election you knew was over before the vote was cast? For me it was 1996. Dole/Kemp were resigned to losing. They had no idea how to beat Clinton. That is how I feel this election has turned this year.
On January 15, 2008 Rush Limbaugh said, “RUSH: I understand what you’re saying. I hate to tell you this, but she’s not alone. I’m here to tell you, if either of these two guys get the nomination, it’s going to destroy the Republican Party, it’s going to change it forever, be the end of it. A lot of people aren’t going to vote. You watch.”
McCain did a great thing picking Palin. But then what did he do? He caged her...DUMB move. Quit prepping her...let her be herself. I was thrilled when McCain picked Palin but I feared one thing...this was the only conservative thing he would do during the general election. That he would try to move more to the left because that’s where he thinks the country is because that’s where the media says it’s at. McCain is proving are worst fears about him for the past 8 years. The man who couldn’t win the nomination against a less experienced Texas governor...who then fought against the president on important issues and couldn’t lead a conservative caucus in the Senate...is the same man running for President.
So we have a man who is so afraid to be anything different from Obama that in the last days of the campaign he’s going right along with Obama on just about every issue...and certainly the biggest issue of the day. If he can’t distinguish himself from him. If he refuses to expose the media (Gwen Ifil) as the scum they are. If he refuses to expose the ties to Ayers, Wright, Davis, Flager, ACORN then what the hell good is he? Why would people vote for him over a Messiah? Why not vote for the groovy guy instead of the old ogre? This was an election McCain could have buried Obama in the electoral college....and McCain will be the one with the career ending speech on November 4...at around 8 PM Eastern Time.
this is the reality thread.
Congratulations to all those CNN/TIME, Quinnipiac, cBS, InAdv/PollPosition, PPP and other crAP polls that have skewed the averages with bull.
NH,PA,VA,NC,FL,OH,MI,WI,MN,CO,NV are all toss ups.
Of which McCain will probably win VA,NC,FL,OH,NV
Of which Obama will probably win WI, MN
Of which NH,PA,CO,MI are true toss ups.
Just cuz some libtwit at the Politico colored some states on the map blue, doesn’t mean didley.
Don't fall for the MSM’s “subtle” attempt at voter suppression of conservative turnout, with polls of oversampled dems and extra blue hues added to maps. Many polls upped their Dem samples right around the time McCain began to pull ahead. The Coronation of the Obamessiah will not be stopped by a silly thing like Democracy.
This doesn’t mean McCain will win, but its a lot closer then were being led to believe. I still think McCain is down by about 2-3 points nationally. There's still time to turn this around. McCain needs to get back on offense.
Exactly right. Four years ago we were called stupid, ignorant, etc voting for Bush so I am hesitant to use the term now. But the facts speak for themselves. People are worried about the economy and many think we are in another depression thanks to the media. But even if that were the case, where in God’s name do they think this guy with no experience, no economic background, and plans to increase taxes on business is going to make things better?? 0bama voters will come to regret their decision. Too bad he will drag the rest of us down too.
I am not a pessimist, but I am a realist, and I can see it happening.
Just think liberal media, Soros, fairness doctrine, controlled internet, etc.
Not a pretty picture. Thank you, Saul Alinsky.
I’m not giving up. I’ve felt worse about Bush’s chances at this point in both 2000 and 2004. The difference is that McCain appeals more to independent and the “undecided”, whoever they are.
If we are honest with ourselves, we realise the Free Republic is nowhere near representative of the population as a whole. People now want or will want the bailout. They are not ready to tough it out. McCain can claim success with some of the tax cuts that go along with this bill and refocus the public on Obama’s inexperience, associations, communism, etc.
255-200 with leaners? That’s only 455. Where are the other states if leaners have already been included?
I guess if McCain has 200 that is a better showing than some other sites put him at. It would mean this still could be won but the momentum seems to be against him now.
