Thank you - I had a feeling that’s what it meant but wasn’t sure - I knew my fellow Freepers could set me straight.
I thought maybe the ‘56 Democratic convention was brokered, but that’s the only one that I have even a clue about.

The top Politico editor was just on Fox and told Chris Wallace that the rumor was true and came from “several top Thompson advisers”. ( Unnamed of course).
Wallace never challenged him for names and let it stand!

Nonsense. I’m not a McCain fan (quite the contrary - I’m for FRED), but why on earth would McCain drop out before the NH primary when he’s got Lieberman’s endorsement which may help him with national-security-minded voters in the northeast. Plus, one thing I’ll say for McCain: he doesn’t quit. The single thing I agree with him on is his strong stance on the war on terror, and I applauded him when he said he’d rather lose the presidential race than lose that war.

That wasn’t invective FRiend, that was a question. And I asked because you’ve been posting that same list on every Fred thread I’ve been on the past few days. And I’ve been on a LOT of Fred threads.

Kansas may post a shutout against Virginia Tech in tonights Orange Bowl. Unnamed sources close to Frank Beamer say the Hokies' coach may commit ritual seppuku on the 50 yard line after his embarrassing loss.
In other sports news, the smart money is on the New Jersey Nets (15-16) to win the NBA Championship. The their NBA Championship contract on Tradesports.com posted a remarkable 167% increase! Meanwhile, sources close to Mark Cuban say the 21-11 Dallas Mavericks will forfeit the remainder of the season after their dismal showing yesterday on Tradesports, where they closed at a mere 11.4.
Cuban is expected to endorse the Utah Jazz for NBA Champions.

Of course Politco reporter Jonathan Martin fell back on a "jocular" moment to base his speculation on. So which is it, "Premature Jocularity" or "Premature Speculation"?

Yes, so did I. And she’s throwing her support behind Ron Paul.

In addition to what sitetest wrote, check out
Lincoln Wins the Republican Nomination in 1860. It'll give you an idea of the brokered convention in which Abraham Lincoln won his nomination for President. That's a pretty good example of what could happen.

There was some reliable looking information out there this morning that the first rumor did indeed come from McCain. Redstate.org had a thread on it, for one.
