Mike Huckabee entrusts fate to higher power
The Telegraph ^ | Jan. 3, 2008 | Tony Harnden

Mike Huckabee called on his supporters to get on their knees and ask "for God's wisdom" as he entrusted his political fate in tonight's Iowa caucuses to a higher power.

At a concert and rally that drew 1,500 people to a neon-lit ballroom on the outskirts of Des Moines, the Republican front-runner in Iowa looked to the Lord for help against his nearest rival - smooth, well-funded Mitt Romney.

Mr Huckabee, a Baptist minister and former Arkansas governor, picked up his bass guitar to jam with a band called the Boogie Woogers and welcomed on to the stage the martial arts film star Chuck Norris.

Polls show Mr Huckabee clinging on to a narrow lead over Mr Romney, the multi-millionaire former Massachusetts governor.

Mr Huckabee has drawn considerable backing from religious conservatives, some suspicious of his rival's Mormon faith, and from those who view Mr Romney's conversion to conservatism as too recent and convenient to be plausible.

Waiting in the wings are Rudy Giuliani, still holding on as the national front-runner, and John McCain, surging into the lead in New Hampshire, which votes next week. Neither man is contesting Iowa seriously, though Mr McCain is hoping for a third-place showing and Mr Romney wounded by a Huckabee victory.

"Nobody has ever been out-spent 20 to one, has ever had the kind of unbelievable force that has risen up against us," said Mr Huckabee, portraying himself as a plucky David against a corporate Goliath to a raucous ballroom.

"I know where I come from. The Prophet said it in Isaiah, 'Unto the rock from which you were hewn and the quarry from which you were dug'. I understand where I come from. A little rent house in Hope, Arkansas, a dad who worked two jobs and never finished high school."

Just a tad... The bold red letters gave him away. He did not mention the SiFi channel so I guess that is safe. `8-)

The Huckster and his constant reliance upon "crosses" that don't exist -- they're really bookcases and "unintentional"......his calling himself "the only Theologian in the race", with his B.A. in Biblical Studies........his casting aspersions on the religion of others.......and now his calling on God to lead him to victory........

Sound exactly like America has it's own Iranian style lunatic......

Will he hang on a cross with a crown of thorns tomorrow night at his press conference? What an Elmer Gantry/Gomer Pyle hybrid!

I think it’s insulting to compare Huckster to Gomer Pyle. Gomer may not have been the sharpest tool in the box, but he was honest, had no guile, had a conscience, and had good values. Huckster’s just a con-man.

I am entrusting a Higher power too, and It isn’t what Huckabee is entrusting to the Higher power.

Apparently, God forgot to tell him not to try to trick other people into running his smear campaign for him.

What a phony this guy is.
