Power Line hits us to a Reuters report that says illegal immigrants are going back to Mexico.
A] growing number of illegal immigrants across the United States are starting to pack their bags and move on as a crackdown on undocumented immigrants widens and the U.S. economy slows, turning a traditional Christmas trek home into a one-way trip. *** There is no tally of the number of illegal immigrants who have already left the United States, many of whom simply head south over the border with their belongings packed into a car during the annual Christmas exodus, or board scheduled flights for other destinations.
So, if we merely enforce the laws that are already on the books, the number of perpetrators will decrease.
Fred Thompson, the candidate with the most robust plan for dealing with immigration seems to think the idea of enforcing current law, will indeed turn the tide on illegal immigration from Mexico.
Thompson proposes cutting off incentives to illegal immigrants. That means keeping employers from hiring them in the first place, and sealing the borders to keep illegal immigrants going back and forth between jobs and family. He said it also means shutting down sanctuary cities and keeping illegal immigrants from getting college and other breaks.
Over a period of time, I think the situation will reverse itself, he said.
Yes! Oh great one.
"Self-deportation"
could work more effective and be the incentive of many more to go home and many not to bother to come - so simple. No carrot, no incentive.
The laws are there. About frig'ng time they were used...
Guaranteed to work better that anything else...
No need to deport them....they deport themselves.
Fred is completely correct in his approach to Illegal Aliens.
No need to forcibly deport them and thereby removing that issue as a point of contention with the liberals.
Simply make it impossible to make money here in the states and they will self-deport.
SEN. JOHN McCAIN'S
AMNESTY BILL FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS
Recently, John McCain did what may be unfairly called a flip-flop and admitted the American public was opposed to amnesty and withdrew his support of it reluctantly perhaps to save his campaign for President
Senator John McCain who possesses many fine qualities not the least of which is service to country in uniform and incredible suffering in defense of this nation, supported amnesty in the form of legislation defeated in Congress last summer largely in part because of the massive outrage expressed by citizens that is credited for rendering the Congressional phone system inoperative during the session. .
The illegal alien problem is the fault of the US government. It created the problem by refusing to fund adequate border security. It has ignored the Constitution and has not followed existing law.
McCain held hands with the liberal Senator Edward Kennedy, (D-Ma)
in support of illegal immigration less than a year ago . Now he's flip flopped.
What are we to believe?
If he's elected will he change his mind again?
I have posted exactly that long time ago. The best way to tackle illegal immigrants is to force employers to check
their status. Heavy fines for failure to comply and jail
terms for repeat violations. If this is done 90% of illegals
will self-deport and it won’t cost tax payers anything.
A huge portion of illegals arrive legally on visitor visa’s.
They just don’t leave when the visa expires. A fence won’t
catch a single one of those. But I still want a fence if we
are to survive as a sovereign nation.
If there's no tally, where's the veracity in the article?
I hope they pay thier income tax before they escape.
AND....A MULTITUDE OF REASONS FOR AMERICANS TO GET BEHIND DUNCAN HUNTER!
OFFICIAL STANCE ON AMNESTY: “Congressman Hunter has a 27 year record of fighting illegal immigration and promoting border security. As a member of Congress with a Southwest border district heavily impacted by the effects of illegal immigration, Rep. Hunter has steadfastly opposed amnesty proposals, including voting against the 1986 amnesty law, while tirelessly working to strengthen border security. Amnesty is not the answer. In fact, it encourages a whole new wave of illegal immigrants who seek to catch the next amnesty.
America has one of the most generous immigration policies in the world. It is unacceptable that we allow millions of people to sneak in the back door of our country when the front door is available. We have tried amnesty and it does not work. We must enforce and, as necessary, tighten our immigration laws and secure our borderit is a matter of national security.” GoHunter08.com
2005-2006: Working to stop amnesties for illegal aliens through membership in the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus
Rep. Hunter has demonstrated opposition to amnesty for illegal aliens by joining the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus that opposes rewarding illegal aliens with amnesty.
“We have to establish the rule of law, and people who are here illegally have to go home.” December 9, 2007; GOP Univision Debate
“He said that ‘the idea that amnesty must be accepted in order to achieve secure and enforceable borders is absurd.’ Providing a path to citizenship would tell the world that the United States is not serious about enforcing its border laws, he said.” July 16, 2007; Des Moines Register (Iowa)
“[Hunter] said the [Senate] bill never should have been considered in the first place. ‘It is time that we abandon the concept of rewarding those who have broken our laws and take action to secure our borders and enforce existing immigration laws.’” July 16, 2007; Des Moines Register (Iowa)
The Senate rightfully voted to reject an amnesty bill that had already been rejected by the American people. This bill, which would have provided amnesty to millions of people living in the United States illegally, met its certain fate today. We must abandon this amnesty idea once and for all, and take the necessary steps to secure our borders and begin enforcing our nations existing immigration laws. June 28, 2007; Rep. Hunter press release
The Senate today demonstrated that it is not interested in listening to the American people, said Congressman Hunter. Rather than rejecting this legislation, the Senate instead voted to bring it one step closer to passage. Border security and interior enforcement are what the American people are demanding; not citizenship benefits for those living in the United States illegally. This bill, regardless of what my colleagues in the Senate may say, is still amnesty ... The idea that amnesty will have to be accepted in order to achieve border security is unacceptable, concluded Hunter. The American people want secure borders and that is what they deserve.” June 26, 2007; Rep. Hunter press release
CHAIN MIGRATION

VISA LOTTERY
2005: Voted for H.R. 4437 to eliminate visa lottery on floor of House
Rep. Hunter voted in favor of final passage of H.R. 4437 which included a provision to eliminate the visa lottery that each year awards 55,000 visas on a random basis. H.R. 4437 was passed by the House by a vote of 239 to 182.
CONTROLLING FOREIGN WORKERS/ PROTECTING U.S. WORKERS
2005: Voted against CAFTA, foreign worker importation program
Rep. Hunter voted against H.R. 3045, the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act (CAFTA). It is expected that CAFTA would create the expectation of immigration and lead to an increase in illegal immigration.
CITIZENSHIP FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS’ BABIES
Congressman Hunter opposes summarily bestowing citizenship on people who have crossed our borders illegally. Therefore, he is a cosponsor of H.R. 1940, the Birthright Citizenship Act, grants automatic citizenship only to those who have at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen. The Constitution has been interpreted to grant U.S. citizenship to any person born on U.S. territory. The unintended consequences of this policy has been thousands of women a year illegally cross our international border, often in dangerous circumstances, to give birth to their child in the U.S. and thereby guaranteeing that child U.S. citizenship.” GoHunter08.com
2005-2006: Cosponsoring H.R. 3938 to end birthright citizenship Rep. Hunter is a cosponsor of H.R. 3938 to eliminate birthright citizenship, the process that automatically grants citizenship to the estimated 250,000 U.S.-born children of illegal aliens each year.
MANDATORY WORKPLACE VERIFICATION OF WORKERS
2006: Voted to increase interior enforcement by funding workplace verification Rep. Hunter voted in favor of the Marshall Amendment to H.R. 5441, the fiscal year 2007 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) appropriations bill. The Marshall Amendment would fund USCIS’ electronic employment eligibility verification program. It passed by a vote of 358-63.
“I think the fair thing to have for employers is to have an extension of this pilot program that we have right now ...is a system in which through a phone call...you can receive from the Department of Homeland Security in fairly short order a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ as to whether your employees are legally within the US. (We should) expand that program throughout the country - and I like the idea also of a tamperproof ID card. I think that’s kind of an important thing.” December 16, 2006; RightWingNews.com
EMPLOYERS WHO HIRE ILLEGAL ALIENS
2006: Voted in favor of H.R. 6095 to increase interior enforcement Rep. Hunter voted in favor of H.R. 6095 to clarify state and local law enforcements inherent authority to enforce Federal immigration laws and overturn a decades-old court injunction that impedes the Federal governments ability to remove aliens from El Salvador on an expedited basis. H.R. 6095 passed by a vote of 277-140.

2005-2006: Cosponsoring H.R. 3938 to reduce chain migration
Rep. Hunter is a cosponsor of H.R. 3938 to reduce chain migration by eliminating the Family 4th Preference category which allots 65,000 visas each year to the siblings of adult U.S. citizens.
“Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-El Cajon) boasted that ‘I built that border fence in San Diego’ and promised that, as president, he would fence off the entire border in six months.” November 30, 2007; The Los Angeles Times
Border security and interior enforcement are what the American people are demanding; not citizenship benefits for those living in the United States illegally. June 26, 2007; Rep. Hunter press release
“Well, I think that we’ve got to do us a two-step program and the first step is to secure the border and the second step then is to...do internal enforcement. You’ve got 250,000 hard-core criminals - in federal, state, and local penitentiaries and jails. That means you have a large criminal element that’s operating within the US committing serious crimes against Americans and their property and once we secure the border, I would make an emphasized effort to ensure that we are to round up criminal aliens and...force their deportation.” December 16, 2006; RightWingNews.com

DRIVER’S LICENSES FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS
Presidential candidate Congressman Duncan Hunter today reaffirmed his long-held position that as President he will not support any legislation that provides drivers licenses for illegal immigrants ... ‘This is not a subject that our political leaders should be going back and forth on,’ stated Hunter. ‘All aspects of combating illegal immigration are important, but the ramifications are higher when we are discussing areas where opportunities are actually being created for those illegally in our country to be provided with a form of identification accepted nation wide ... At tonight’s Democratic debate Historic-Presidential-Debates Nov-07 , I expect Senator Clinton to once again state her position on this important issue based on who is in the audience and what they will like to hear. I disagree with that philosophy and I believe it is simply irresponsible. Voters should have a clear understanding where the candidates stand on this important issue. With me, people know where I stand and they know that just as I have always opposed providing driver licenses for illegal immigrants, I will continue to do so as President.” November 16, 2007; NewsBlaze.com

Exactly....and who’s to say they simply aren’t moving to other “illegal alien” friendly States, which is, in turn, the reason that Illegal Immigration MUST remain a Federal issue and never become a State’s issue only.
At any rate, these articles about woes to illegals are designed to placate the majority who hate illegal immigration and simultaneously fire up the illegal supporters and their bleeding hearts (or worse). I will believe the FED is actually doing something about his huge problem when I don’t see illegals gathering at downtown street corners, when I don’t see our city parks inundated with them on foreign holidays, when I see and hear only English in our stores and on our ballots, when the neighborhood lawns are mowed by American teen entrepreneurs and when rich contractors start whining that they have to pay more for their employees and their taxes go up to what the rest of us pay, when the local school populations drop by 50 percent and......ad infinitum.
NRA of America
Stand Up Now
I always thought your group stood for the 2nd. Ammendment. I also thought the NRA wanted to elect politicians supporting gun ownership. What's your problem?
"My idea of gun control is a good, steady aim."
Did you know on Dec. 21st. in a speech in Iowa Fred Thompson said:
When someone asked about what the government could do about AK-47s and the Westroads Mall shooting, Thompson said that assault weapons are not the problem, it is the people using them inappropriately; and it is not the government's place to remove guns from rightful citizens.
"Look at those church shootings," he said, in reference to the Colorado Springs, Colo., shootings that killed five and wounded five on Dec. 9. "That armed volunteer saved countless lives."
Thompson added, "My idea of gun control is a good, steady aim."
Is this not what we want?
Where are our leaders?
Why doesn't the NRA have TV spots right now endorsing and supporting Fred Thompson?
If we fail to do so we may have a Democrat or a liberal Republican elected, who will then push to limit or eliminate private gun ownership.

Minute Men of America
Stand Up
I always thought your group stood against illegal immigration. I also thought the Minute Men wanted a permanent security fence along our southern border. It is now clear to me that your leaders are either asleep or have given up on the cause.
"When I am president, I will build a fence."
Did you know .....Fred Thompson in a speech in Iowa on the 21st. of Dec. declared "When I am president, I will build a fence." He went further on to say...Amnesty and illegal immigration, he said, are not healthy for the U.S. or Mexico. "We need to be a nation of high fences and wide gates."
Is this not what we want?
Where are our leaders?
Why aren't there Minute Men TV spots right now endorsing and supporting Fred Thompson?
If we fail to do so we may have a Democrat or a liberal Republican elected, who will then push an amnesty bill through congress.
