Somebody in the Huckabee camp made the mistake of insulting the leader of the conservative movement in the U.S., Rush Limbaugh. Rush responded on Friday's show and basically ripped the Huckabee camp a well-deserved new one. Whoever made the original comments clearly has not been paying attention.
Some are questioning whether the Huckabee campaign can survive the shellacking it got on Friday's program. Huckabee is trying to stop the bleeding:
SIOUX CITY, Iowa The best-talking Republican politician in America has a message for the best-talking conservative voice in the country: Let's talk to one another.
Mike Huckabee, taking questions from reporters after a town hall meeting here, responded to the torrent of criticism that Rush Limbaugh unleashed during his broadcast yesterday by turning the other cheek and then heaping on the praise.
"I love Rush Limbaugh; I've always loved his show," Huckabee assured. "I think hes been great for the conservative movement."
The former Arkansas governor conceded that he hadn't sought Limbaugh out to set the record straight but that he would like to.
"I dont have his number," Huckabee explained. "If you have it, Jonathan, why dont you give it to me. Id love to talk to him."

I'm starting to see signs that the attacks on Huckabee by Romney are actually driving some voters to Fred Thompson and not to Romney has he had intended. Rush was very complimentary about Romney's "Mormon" speech, but he hasn't shown a lot of enthusiasm for him otherwise. I wonder if Rush's blast at Huckabee might drive more conservatives to consider Thompson again.
I know I am. Especially after this and this. Patrick Ruffini says Thompson is hitting Iowa hard - no more Lazy Fred. I no longer think a Thompson win in Iowa is out of the question, no matter what the polls show right now. Let's not forget that in 2004 the polls had Howard Dean the clear leader and he came in third.
Huckabeen there and done that....
And Rush has often spoken well of Fred, even going stronger on Friday than his earlier comments. IMHO, Rush has gotten very close to endorsing Fred without overtly doing so.
Hmmmmm, looks like Huckster forgot to stay in a Holiday Inn last night. Tsk tsk..... Bashing Bush then Rush....yah that’s a great strategy Huckabye baby...LOL!
Methinks someone else’s campaign had their hand in this.
I'm no eggspurt but Jan 4th will bear out this prediction either way.
I suspect that the primary goal of the Romney camp at this stage is to shoot out a couple of tires on the Huckmobile.
Rush stated on Friday that his essay on Huck was the result of comments made by Ed Rollins, national chair of the Huck campaign.
I did not hear this but if true, Rush is right--again, as usual. Fred is the only conservative in the top tier. The only other one is Duncan Hunter.
If this was actually the fault of Ed Rollins it counts as a world class screw-up for someone so politically savvy. So depending on where one's passions are, Rollins should resign, or to others, GO ED GO! Keep tripping up Hucklebee. (A caller on Rush's show recently kept pronouncing it Hucklebee.)
Limbaugh: "Mr. Rollins, who's now the campaign chieftain for Mike Huckabee, is saying that I am part of the New York or Wall Street-DC axis, the media elite axis, that didn't see any of this coming."
Huckabee's Rollins Trashes Rush Instead of Debating Conservatism
Now whether that means he'll be back on the air on the 2nd.....I don't know. I personally think he WILL be back on the 2nd. I don't believe he'd miss that day for the world.
At any rate, his show on this date would be VERY interesting to listen to.
He can be a BIG influence on the caucus the next day.

Unidentified: "Honestly...Rush doesn't think for himself. That's not necessarily a slap because he's not paid to be a thinker -- he's an entertainer. I can't remember the last time that he has veered from the talking points from the DC-Manhattan chattering class." And I thought, as I told you yesterday, "What in the world here? Anybody that's running a Republican candidate or is on the staff of a Republican presidential candidate can't possibly believe this. Maybe it wasn't Huckabee or anybody in his staff leaking this. Maybe it was somebody else."

I have heard Rush come very close to endorsing Fred, very VERY close. I wish he would go on and do it!
Go Fred Go!
Limbaugh:"So, I see some similarities here in the Huckabee campaign and Perot. You know, Perot, Whitman, Ed Rollins?"

Yep, when he first said it I thought he was only characterizing Fred’s remarks but this Friday Rush confirmed tht he meant Fred as a candidate. My condolences to the Hunter supporters as Duncan is the exception to the rule and is worthy of an honorable mention. Thompson / Hunter would make a great team.
Trash talking Rush is like relieving yourself on a live 3rd rail...When you wake up, your not going to like the results!
