It just could happen:
But after a sluggish start, Thompson has sensed an opening in Iowa, and hes moving decisively to exploit it. The opening arises from a combination of Romneys changes of position on social issues and Huckabees stumbles on foreign-policy questions and immigration.
After his winning performance in the Des Moines Registers debate, Thompson has embarked on a lengthy bus tour of the state. During these final days, his campaign says hell hold events in 50 communities and will visit 54 of the 99 counties.
On Monday, he picked up the surprise endorsement of Congressman Steve King. Of all the endorsements flying around these days, that one could move the most numbers. It sends a powerful signal from one of Iowas most conservative leaders to others on the right around the state: Weve now got a horse we can ride.
And that feeling is growing. Here in Florida there is a renewed sense of excitement surrounding Thompson as a true conservative candidate and not one who made himself one just to run for President.
While its the consensus, I dont think at all that Freds start was all that sluggish and in fact it seems far more calculated than anything else. The Iowa debate showed that.
Let me put it this way. Bank tellers will tell you that when they spot counterfeit money its not from studying the fake, but when they have become so used to viewing the real thing that when they see instantly spot it.
That may yet happen with the conservative base and Fred.

I’ll be the first to say that Fred isn’t perfect, but how anyone could consider voting for Rudi, Huck, Romney, or McCain over Thompson is beyond me.

In April, just before Fred was even talking about making a run the the President, I was supporting Duncan Hunter.
I like Duncan, and I agree with his views and policies.
However ? when I saw that Fred was thinking of running for President, I knew we had a winner there.
I know, I know, to some, Fred's performance at the beginning when he entered was a great disappointment and his waiting until September got many people weary.
I admit, I got weary and a little disappointed.
However ?
I never wavered in my support for Fred.
Fred is the only one I trust to be sitting at the President's desk in the White House in 2009.
I trust Fred to appoint Supreme Court Justice to the bench who will up hold the rule of law ( and not make law on the bench .
I trust Fred to appoint judges who will up hold the US constitution ( but, won't put things in the US constitution that are not there ).
I trust Fred to stand tall and be the one to face world leaders like Putin ... and if need be ( like Reagan , NYET to GORBY ) say no to Putin.
I trust Fred that he won't allow the other countries to push the USA around, or apologize for America ( that is the current political correct thing to do now ).
I trust Fred to build and keep our military strong and respect our troops.
I trust Fred to build up our CIA, NSA, and all the other intelligent agencies to were they need to be.
I trust Fred to look out for the well being for all the US citizens, because Fred is not in it for himself, or some kind of ego trip and he does not lust for the job, but, he has the burden to serve us.
I trust Fred because he knows the problems that we face and is not afraid to say it.
Fred not only wants to give our children a good chance to succeeded, he is looking beyond this generation, to our children's, children generation.
Fred is also not afraid to put the MSM in it's place ( and he can do that single handedly all by himself ).
Whom ever you do chose, that is your right, and even in that, that is one of the things Fred wants to protect.
Above all, Fred sees the greatness in America, and wants to preserve that.
Fred is the only candidate in this election who was drafted by the people, and for the people, and by GOD, we hope one day again, we will have a government for the people.
The only clear conservative choice for 2008 is Fred Thompson..... I like to see a THOMPSON/HUNTER ticket in 2008.
I hope you have a safe and MERRY CHRISTMAS folks. 14 posted on 12/19/2007 2:40:10 AM PST by Prophet in the Wilderness

I would be perfectly happy to vote for Fred Thompson. The problem is that on the stump, he radiates excitement like Bob Dole. After that awful experience, I decided to only support living candidates.

You must have met a different Fred Thompson than I met in person, seen on interviews, and whose articles I read.
He’s on fire in person and in every debate.
The “bob dole” talking point comes straight from the Rudy camp and is copied by the Myth Romney camp (neither of whom I would cross the street to piss on if they were on fire, let alone get out in the New Mexico snow and vote for).

There must be a nother candidate out there named Fred D. Thompson because the person you are describing is not the man whom I met at a campaign stop in Laguna Woods, California last month.
And he is definitely not the man I observed in several debates.
Nor is he the man I have been listening to on Laura Ingrams' show.
Nor is he the man I have observed on Hannity and Colmes.
Are you sure you are not confusing Fred with Rudy? or maybe the Huckster? or even McCain?
Come on, be honest, I'll bet you haven't even seen him in person, right?

I hereby exercise citizen's eminent domain on that phrase.
Cheers!

Welcome aboard. I see the MSM is loosing their stranglehold on swaying the electorate to settle for their choice for the 2008 race. WE THE PEOPLE will be making this selection and WE THE PEOPLE want a real true-blue Tennessee Conservative waiving our banner.
Our banner of protection for the unborn. Our banner of freedom which liberated over 50 million people in the last 7 years. No war is perfect, no war is without casualties, and no war is without a victor. America can stand tall for what has been accomplished in Iraq and Afghanistan. We gave them the opportunity to have freedom...now we pray they will take advantage of the opportunity.
FRED THOMPSON is the President I want on America’s side of the negotiating table...what about you?
