Keith Ellison's GOP foe attacked sharply Wednesday, calling him unfit for Congress and saying he was "offended as a Jew that we have a candidate like this running for U.S. Congress." On a day Ellison was fielding national media requests and getting attention for possibly becoming the first Muslim in Congress, the remarks of opponent Alan Fine showed how Republicans hope to make Ellison's past a liability for Democrats.
Fine didn't raise specific issues that hadn't come up earlier in the campaign, but his criticism was sharper. It showed that despite a surprisingly strong showing in Tuesday's DFL primary in the heavily DFL Fifth District, Ellison still faces a grueling contest.
Besides Fine, he faces Independence Party endorsee Tammy Lee and Green Party candidate Jay Pond in November.
Fine, in an emotion-choked statement at a news conference, harshly condemned Ellison, focusing particularly on his past links to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
"I'm extremely concerned about Keith Ellison, Keith Hakim, Keith X Ellison, Keith Ellison Muhammad," Fine said, referring to names Ellison used when he wrote several editorials for the University of Minnesota Daily when he was a law student in the early 1990s. "I'm personally offended that this person is a candidate for U.S. Congress. ... He is the follower of a known racist, Louis Farrakhan, who promoted division between the people of our nation, a person who believes that the white man is the anti-Christ, a person who called for the destruction of our nation, a person who believes that Jews are the scourge of the Earth. I'm personally offended as a Jew that we have a candidate like this running for U.S. Congress."

This is a tough call. The district is overwhelmingly Democratic, but do we really want someone like Ellison in Congress? And remember, there have been districts which lean heavily to one party but elected a member of another (Utah District 3 electing Orton, for example).
Minnesota Freepers are encouraged to respond to this.
Perhaps he will offer free Burkas for who ever promises to vote for him. And how will he answer the question about whether or not Sharia ought to be the supreme law of the land?

Good idea, but he has to be very careful about how he does that. He does have to worry about the Politically Correct Media.
Having any Muslim in Congress is a threat to national security.

I wonder if this is going to work. This is the heart of Monveon Minneapolis. Pretty sure the limosence Liberals who make up the bulk of this district are going to see his faith and ties to extremists political fringe groups as a bonous.
These sheep are going to think "see, see how open minded and nobel I am, I did not hold his Muslim faith against him like those evil nasty Christian Fundementalists Right Wingers did. Ghia be praised!"
I will be delighted to be proven wrong but I have my doubts. This clown is everything their Utopian Socialist fantasies about protecting the "an opression minority from the evil male patricarchy" are all about".
At the very least, make this Muslim fight for this office. He has no business being in WAshington.
Maybe it's time to send Fine contributions.

Pray there are enough Democrats in his district that are getting some oxygen to their peanut-sized brains.
The problem isn't that he's a Muslim, it's that he's a Farrakhan follower and a racist. Unfortunately due to the demographics of this district, Fine has little chance of winning.
You may be right, unfortunately. The Republican nominee, Alan Fine, is a liberal Republican. One would expect that to be helpful among upscale voters in Minneapolis. But perhaps the Moonbat Left is so entrenched, it won't matter.

In theory, I agree with you. However, I think the crew of traitorous and seemingly Entrenched For Life DemonRats and RINOS that we currently have on the payroll do more damage every DAY to our country than this guy could ever DREAM of doing in any given length of time.
Term Limits, Anyone? This 109th Congress is seriously the Worst Congress Ever, IMHO. Right up there with Worst President Ever, Carter. Followed by First Runner Up Worst President Ever, Clinton.

I don't know if I'd say this was the worst Congress ever. There were some far worse, including the post-Watergate ones (at least from 1975-81) and the horrid 89th Congress (1965-67) following the LBJ landslide, which pushed through the Great Society mess, not to mention the FDR/Truman Congresses (from 1933-47). Believe me, it could be much worse where the Republicans were completely in no position to oppose the liberal 'Rat expansionist hordes.
You could send Fine a contribution. It would be appreciated and put to good use, I'm sure.
But Fine has an uphill battle in this district. Trust me, I live in the 5th District.
I'd encourage you to donate to a candidate who has a much better chance of winning in November.
