Michael Bouchard was a full-time public safety officer at age 20.
After a few years in police work, he grew frustrated with a legal system he said was sometimes unfair to victims of sexual assault and other crimes. He sought out Oakland County candidates he thought might make good judges and began working on their campaigns in the mid-1980s.
Bouchard soon decided he should dive deeper into politics and run for office himself, helping to make the laws rather than just enforcing them.
It opened my eyes to another reality, said Bouchard, now a Republican primary candidate for U.S. Senate. Pretty much everything I did as a law enforcement officer or as a small business owner was very much related to who was making the laws in the political world. And I felt I needed to get more involved.

No problem
I didn't know that Bourchard had come out in favor of MCRI. Did he? I thought all of the spineless Michigan GOP was running like hell from it. The last I knew, Zandstra was the only one who embraced MCRI, and he's gone.
I won't call you crazy yet, but I think democrap money is yet to begin flowing in in huge amounts. Hillary has always been in bed (pun intended) with the canadian, and the national dems would really love to keep her around. Let's see what happens after next Tuesday. I believe Stabemall is safe, and I believe that Mrs. Mulhern has an excellent chance of keeping her job. Part of the problem, as I see it, is that both Stabemall and Mrs. Mulhern have been target rich environments which the spineless Michigan GOP have failed to capitalize upon. Another thought, the people moving out of Michigan are largely the ones motivated to find jobs, which means the welfare queen/sorehead union households/"senior" citizens become a larger demographic. Maybe I'm the crazy one, and I'll gladly wear the title if you're right and I'm wrong come November.
You raise an important point though: Yes, the dems will pour gobs of money to save fat Deb's seat, however they are raising a lot less than the republicans nationwide.
The union coffers and the like are more likely to go to help save Granny's job as she is in a position to give them more favors than a worthless senator.
Secondly, if fat Deb looks vulnerable the dems will drop her in a second and won't waste money on her IMO - specially think about how it will enrage folks when Hillary swings by - this will really help republican money flow in.
We don't even have a candidate yet but all that will change next week. I think the national GOP forces will start showing up here.
Bouchard has said that he's got some issues with MCRI. From what I've read, he is concerned that MCRI would stop single-sex schools/classes. Mike Cox is in favor of MCRI.
