State Rep. Bob Chur-chill of Lake Villa said he was with-holding support, for now, because McSweeney went negative.
I set the rules early, he said. I said you had to stay clean, and he didnt.
McSweeney sent out a mailing in the final week that blasted Churchill for voting more than a decade ago in the state House to extend tax in-creases.

Melissa Bean's victory was a fluke over an incumbent who should have retired many years ago. However, the GOP primary appears to have created some intra-party hostility. The race could easily go either way.
33 percent for Salvi
16 percent for Chur-chill
5 percent for Aaron Lin-coln, a Wauconda attorney
2 percent for Gurnee anti-tax activist Ken Arnold
2 percent for James Mitchell, a former Lake County Board member
He will be up against Bean(D), who replaced Crane(R) last election. Hope he stomps her.
I hope the same thing, David McSweeney seems like he's very sharp.
State Rep. Bob Chur-chill of Lake Villa said he was with-holding support,
He's got the money.
I proudly voted McSweeny
You made a very smart, well-informed choice, which denotes nothing negative about his primary opponents. If you have a front yard, will you be putting up a yard sign this Autumn?
ping
Of course.
I had all my signs for the primary!
This is the GOP's best pick-up opportunity of all the U.S. House races.
This is not only Crane's district, but Donald Rumsfeld's old district (when he resigned, Crane won the 1969 special). It's time to take this seat back for Rummy !
Peter Fizgerald endorsed McSweeney. Bob Churchill is just a selfish media hound. If Kathy Salvi won, he would have made sure Bean won. Churchill has an ax to grind with the Salvi family. Al Salvi (Kathy's husband) beat Churchill in the GOP primary for Secretary of State. Churchill threw a whine fest after losing. In 2000, when Frank Salvi (Al's brother) ran for state rep. in McHenry County, Churchill called Frank Salvi a pro-abort RINO (which was not true).
Nothing Churchill does is helpful for conservatives. I hope Oberweis campaigns for McSweeney. Oberweis voters in the IL-08 are gung ho about McSweeny. I hope they don't stay home.
Churchill sounds like he needs to retire from politics.
THAT being said, McSweeney's stance on the issues is solidly conservative and he IS the rightful nominee, so unless Churchill wants Bean-for-life he should swallow his pride and at least support McSweeney in public. I would crawl over broken glass to pick McSweeney over Bean.
Besides, Bean's 2004 ultra-liberal primary opponent is running against her as an "independant" this time -- creatign the perfect scenario where we can split the liberal vote in the general election like the Dems did to the GOP in the primary election.
In the Governor's race, Oberweis did not say he would oppose Topinka (as much as I hate to admit it, any big name GOP candidate who refuses to endorse the RINO queen in November will be committing career suicide) , but rather he said his level of support would depend on how much committment she shows to reform. Joe Birkett, having been seduced by the dark side, actually accused Oberweis of treason for saying that. Words cannot express my disappointment in Joe. Let's just say the 2006 Joe Birkett would be accusing the 2003 Joe Birkett of "helping the Democrats win" when he denounced George Ryan's blanket amnesty for murderers. Joe's career of fighting corruption has gone down the tubes so he can defend his corrupt running mate tooth and nail. Sad.
FYI, I would not for Topinka OR Blago if you paid me. BOTH of them are abortion-luvin', gay-rights kissin', big-spending useful idiots for Daley. Blago's more honest about it, so what? Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez are honest about being a marxists and I won't be caught dead voting for them, either. A vote for Topinka OR Blago just increases their popular vote numbers and gives them more of a "mandate" to wreak this state. It should be easy not to split the conservatve vote in the general election. There will be several liberals running for Governor but probably only ONE conservative. If you want to send a message that you don't want liberalism, vote for the CONSERVATIVE. If you think Blago's "record" of forcing drug stores to dispend abortion pills, telling 12 year olds they can have abortons but not video games, and appointing Nation of Islam nuts to a "hate crimes" panel is impressive, then vote for him and you'll get more of the same.
Hate to burst your bubble, but while lt. gov. candidates run separately in the primary, they run as a team with the gov. candidate in the general. So, the choice is Blago/Quinn vs. Topinka/Birkett. I have no problem with Judy Baar, but then I don't really care about abortion type issues. Besides, she'll be a lot tougher on Blago than any of the wimps who ran against her in the primary. Oberweis needs to go back to making milk. Black should replace Tim JOhnson in Congress. Gidwitz needs to get a life.
And Tooooopinkovna needs to find a new line of work if my vote has anything to say about it. I have no problem voting for Quinn over Birkett given Birkett's unwarranted behavior at the "unity" breakfast which showed him to be a candidate fully qualified to run with Judeeee!!!! and to be defeated with her. When I posted the line about Birkett for governor, I was not yet aware of his behavior at the "unity" breakfast. Birkett will probably do well as a private attorney especially with the flow of business Kjellander can provide him.
We agree on most things other than top priority of 2006. You want to vote for a perfectly fine fellow who is running third party and cannot win. His candidacy is, at best, a receptacle for conservative votes reasonably disgusted with both Blago and Judeeee! and at worst a candidacy that, given 5% of the vote, will cause future "I gotta be ME!!!!" problems. There were conservatives who did not vote for Reagan. They were wrong. When you vote for the third party guy, there is little likelihood that he will attain 5% but why take a chance? More importantly, we need control of a major party in order to actually win elections and to enact policy. The priority for me isd destruction of Tooooopinkovna who stands in the way of conservative control of the party. Stopping her is better facilitated by voting for Blago directly. Hudeeee!!!! would be just as bad as Blago on all social issues and maybe worse. The courts will have an opportunity to deal with the excesses of either. Generally, federal court precedents have upheld the right of conscience on abortion and even birth control. We have probably now degenerated however to the point where the employers themselves have defected to the pro-abort side and that may be a major problem in litigation since most precedents favored employers like Catholic hospitals over Planned Barrenhood types trying to force abortion on them or over government overreaching in violation of First Amendment religious rights.
Judeeee!!!!! must be destroyed.
You are absolutely right in your support of Salvi and now McSweeney although I am really not favorably impressed by his prior act of primarying Phil Crane. We need the seat back. Hopefully, McSweeney will look better as a Congressman. If I were in his district, I would vote for him and then hold him responsible for better behavior if elected.
AND, bye-bye Birkett like you said.
