Wyoming Races: Gov. Freudenthal (D) Strong, Rep. Cubin (R) 'Vulnerable'
Casper Star-Tribune ^ | February 7, 2006 | Chad Baldwin

A self-described "ultra-conservative," Kathleen Meade of Cheyenne didn't vote for Democratic Gov. Dave Freudenthal in 2002. But if the 2006 election were held today, he would get her vote.

"I really do not fault a majority of what he has done," said Meade, 74, a retired teacher. "I think he's sincere. I don't have negative thoughts against him."

When it comes to Republican U.S. Rep. Barbara Cubin, however, Meade speaks more critically.

"There are some things I've been disappointed with," the longtime Cheyenne resident said. "At this point, it seems that she mostly does what the Republicans in Washington want her to do."

According to a new Casper Star-Tribune poll, Meade isn't the only registered Republican who feels that way. Eighty-one percent of Wyoming voters surveyed -- including 78 percent of Republicans -- rated Freudenthal's performance as "excellent" or "good." Cubin's performance was described as "fair" or "poor" by 53 percent of those polled -- including 38 percent of the Republicans surveyed.

Is she as liberal as Orval Hansen was ? I know he was the last bonafide liberal RINO Congressman from Idaho (1969-75).

I talk about him like he's dead, he turns 80 this year. That would be amazing if she were to the left of him, since his lifetime ACU rating was a paltry 42, only slightly more Conservative than Democrat Richard Stallings's 38 (or Larry LaRocco's 29).

Leave it to Casper's Pravda by the Platte to tout a government employee with intentions to vote Democratic. Apparently the editor recently felt his clout slipping and decided to rectify the situation with home grown polls. What do you know? One of his very first polls gives his mostly leftist readers a wet dream.

This sort of data suggests that we conservatives still have a big job to do if all who think they're conservatives are to be educated about the Rats.

There are many, many non-liberal, but stupid and ill-informed, people out there. Talk radio can do only so much. Fox has marginal impact on public opinion. The blogs are negligible except among political junkies. WE must take on some of the job, person to person.

One more thing to illustrate the absurdity of the Trib's manufactured poll story about Cubin's alleged vulnerability. Her 2004 challenger lacked the guts to identify himself as a Democratic candidate anywhere on his website. Guess he counted on voters confusing him for a Republican candidate.

And we can count on Rat candidates in places like Wyoming trying to pull this kind of krap. Some people fall for it, so we need to counter it.

Barbara Cubin is the favorite to win the general election. However, if she draws a strong primary challenger, that could be a different story.
