But 2 candidates differ on most other issues in remarks before officials
by Tyler Whitley
CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Republican gubernatorial candidate Jerry W. Kilgore and state Sen. H. Russell Potts Jr. agreed yesterday that the state should not impose any more unfunded mandates on local governments. But they differed on just about everything else.

Helloooo!

Editorial
Give independent candidate Russ Potts credit at least for injecting some humor into this year's gubernatorial contest. His latest schtick is a riff on remarks Jerry Kilgore made the other day about immigrants.

Funny, if you read the threads on DU and the leftie blogs Allen is done and Warner is going to challenge and decimate him. That and they think that Payne could also beat him because he was a 'moderate' like warner(barf). There screaming for their golden boy to challenge Allen and off him before the 2008 primaries start.

Do they not recall how Allen thoroughly trashed Mary Sue Terrier and Coke Robb?

No, they probably don't.

Well they tend to forget then someone reminds them that he did, and of course they scream troll, and after a couple troll posts they claim that Mary Sue Terry was a worthless candidate who was going to lose anyway and that Chuck Robb would have lost to anyone.

They're living in denial.

I worked on the first AG race against Mary Sue in 1985. She was absolutely unstoppable. If "she was going to lose anyway" how the heck did she start out 30 points up and then lose by 19?

They may be a little closer to the truth with Robb. Without Marshall Coleman in 1994, Ollie North would have beat Robb. Robb had more than his share of baggage.

But, c'mon, the RATS LOVED him. He was their superstar. Just like Clinton.

Yea i know but who ever said the people over at Dkos and DU were ever prone to logic. Before the 2004 election they were screaming that they were gonna take back the house and win the senate and presidency /etc.

I suppose its a good thing John Warner ran around derailing ollie north in 1994, had it not been for that we probably would have never had George Allen as a senator since ollie north would currently hold that seat.

True and of course im sure that would have kept the anti senator wing of freerepublic at bay. Kind of funny that the anti senator wing of free republic rags on Allen for being a senator yet still push somone like Senator Mccain

Yea me too, personally i think that the "senators dont get elected" wing kept telling themselves that during the 2004 election just like they said war time presidents are always relected to make them selves feel better and reassure themselves that we would win. Senator has been elected his name was JFK, and we've only run two senators since then and both times they were not favored to win. Goldwater wasnt going to beat johnson because the country wasnt going to have three presidents in a year and it woudlnt have mattered whether he was a governor or a senator. Dole was just a looser who compromised on everything important yet the rinos shoved him down our throats as 'electable', sound familiar? George Allen is no Bob Dole and he doesnt have to deal with goldwaters problem either.

The condi wing of free republic also runs the oh hes a senator bit but the same people would like her to challenge DiFi or Babs for senate. I just love the rampant logic... They can't attack him for his issues and him personally so they run to the Senators don't get elected shpeal.

I had an ongoing "conversation" the other day with someone who thought we should replace Cheney, since the Veep office is a springboard to the White House.

What? Twice in like the last 150 years or so...

Yea GHWB was the only one to do it. I like the idea of having a VP who won't run for president when he's done because then we can have a debate of ideas in the party and still hold power with a good candidate yet in the public eyes a seperate administration of sorts. Its still REpublican but not the same old one thats been running the show for the last 8 years. I think something like this prevents voter fatigure with one party which allows another party to sneak in even if they stink. Although personally i've never bought into the voter fatigue thing because GHWB would have won releection had perot not come along.

I never understood the Condi supporters, they are all behind her saying shes the only one who can beat hillary yet they dont know really where she stands and critize others for their positions. Ie they attack George Allen for not being prolife enough yet condi is on the record for abortions and aff action among other liberal causes. SHes to the left of Mccain yet you've got a bunch of people pumping her up here and in the blogosphere. I think there are far too many of us obsessed with Star Power instead of a candidate with good ideas and a good personality. I mean dont get me wrong i like Condi, but i dont understand why everyone pushes her so hard when her positions make her a RINO on this website and shes never held elected office before just been appointed to different places.

Of course now this thread has Senator Allen saying he would have met with Cindy Sheehan.

That's not gonna help.

But I won't defend him for it either.

Yea true people say dumb things all the time no need to eject them for it, most of the people on that thread werent really fans of his or were on the fence anyway looking for a reason to throw him overboard. Its not even worth it to jump in on that thread. These are the same people who would have thrown Reagan overboard because he had to go pro choiceish and raised taxes as governor of California. To them one strike and your out if your not their guy and as many as possible as long as your their guy.
