Let's Get it RIGHT in 2005 - Will the Real GOP Stand Up?
Bay Village Advocate ^ | June 17, 2005 | Friends of Bruce Cobbeldick Committee

I am confident I am the best candidate because O’Boyle’s campaign is mostly about simply defeating Deborah Sutherland, and if Bay’s present School Board President becomes mayor, it would be a pretty darn rough on Bay taxpayers, as I can only imagine how easy it would be for the School Board to pretty much get whatever its wants – they’d say jump and the residents would be saying, “how high?” My platform is the most substantial. My vision for Bay Village maps to the true desires of most residents and most business owners; moreover, I’m the only candidate who is beholden to the taxpayer. In these tough times, having a Fiscal Conservative who will return City Hall back to the People is a pretty rare leadership trait. O’Boyle is a Democrat and Debbie’s Administration couldn’t be more RINO if it tried. Sutherland’s Tax And Spend, Tax And Spend style of Leadership has many people convinced that Debbie is very taxing – financially and emotionally. If you are asking, where is the compassion, the people skills, the listening skills or the sincerity, you are not alone. I am very confident I am the best candidate because I offer the kind of ideas, caring and courtesy that are strong indications that I am not out to win the love of others – I am interesting in offering love, carrying the water, truly serving others and replacing ego with helpfulness. That is why. No one else will be the kind of maverick, independent thinker and advocate for the taxpayers here in Bay. And I mean no one. Not even close. And if you’re a fan of someone who is able to be personable and shows the ability to listen and empathize, the vote ought to be really, really clear - - - By all means, vote for me, Bruce Cobbeldick. Those who are fans of Debbie Sutherland will act accordingly. Those who look for a strong tie to the Democratic Party might opt for O’Boyle, but for the Conservatives and Independents, those concerned about Bay’s identity, the high cost of rising taxes and wanting to end the Good Ol’ Boy System and put an end to the kind of Entrenched Government and Hubris Trait nonsense that has the tail wagging the dog around here, I feel very good about my chances to win this election. The race for mayor in Bay Village is not simply about the garbage getting collected on time, or the city streets having a minimal amount of potholes. There is real work to be done in terms of putting the residents here back in the driver’s seat, and choosing to safeguard our identity. I want Bay Village to quit fretting about becoming another Westlake. There is no need to keep up with the Jones’. We need to pay attention to all these For Sale Signs that exist in our neighborhoods throughout the city. People are running away, fleeing the high property taxes, making the decision to leave Bay in hopes of putting more of their hard earned money in their own pockets. Our Founding Forefathers broke away from England because they were outraged over a tax rate of just five percent. Leadership is about being in touch with the people, knowing their pain, and having a clear understanding of their situation and day-to-day life. I am not part of “the current system.” I am a “political outsider.” I’m not running just to defeat Debbie and I am not going to be a puppet for the School Board. My hero is Thomas Jefferson who said, good government does not take from the mouths of labor the bread that it has earned. We are taxing people right out of their homes, and it is only I (me, Bruce Cobbeldick) who’s been saying that. I am the lone candidate, who said that on the front page of local newspapers in 2002, who beat Ed Herman in Bay Village with that message when running for U.S. Congress in 2004, and as a Social and Fiscal Conservative, I have been the one candidate who has publicly criticized Republicans like Trakas, Kilbane and Patton for breaking from GOP doctrine and supporting the state’s one percent tax hike. Who’s the one guy who’s shown real leadership on Tax Relief? Me.
