The whole country is trending Republican, it's just not being reported.

The article said the following about the Dooley seat:

"Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 51 percent to 36 percent in the district, according to the California secretary of state’s website, and Al Gore won the district by 11 percent in 2000, when Dooley was reelected by only 7 percent."

This is a bit misleading, since before the 2002 redistricting the district was much less Democratic, and Gore only carried by 2% under the old lines. Dooley would have won by over 15% in 2000 under the new lines.

I wish State Senator Ashburn the best in the race, but I would be shocked if he can pull off the upset. The district has a Hispanic majority, and I think we could have been competitive with a Hispanic candidate, but I don't think that Ashburn can get the 40% or so of the Hispanic vote he would need to win.

This is a democrat district, but if any time is good to make a run at it, it's when its an open seat.

I wish him the best.
