Most recent poll puts Patty Murray ahead by 49% to 40%.
G-d save us from the pig-ignorant and the unappeasable, here in Washington state; those "more-conservative-than-thou" types who would turn up their snouts even at a resurrected Ronald Wilson Reagan, were the great man ever to descend from the heavens in a golden chariot and deign to run for office hereabouts.
The only "true conservatives" whose existence they ever willingly acknowledge, ultimately, are they themselves, and the voices tantruming and gibbering within their heads... and, sometimes: they even seem to suspect those of manifesting insufficient political piety. :)
People like this one didn't teach Senator Gorton a lesson, they taught Washington State conservatives a lesson...the LP is not your friend.
The 'Toon had already been acquitted by the time Can't Vote Well was instated in January 2001 (The 'Toon only had 17 more days left in his term). But don't let the facts get you confused.
Oh, that's right...she just go in there, handed the Senate to the Dems, started raising more money then any other Senator and has been voting liberal every since.
Actually, she didn't hand the Senate to the 'Rats. Jumpin' Jim Jeffords did that later. And by the way, Slade had somewhat of a liberal voting record--including giving The 'Toon a pass on perjury. Can't get much more liberal than that.
Yep, you sure taught Senator Gorton a lesson all right.
Sure did--he lost his job in an agonizingly close election, and I'm proud to have helped give him the boot. And I'll work to make sure he never again holds elective office.
Which Jeffords couldn't have done without your noble contribution to the Democratic Party.
"I'm proud to have helped give him the boot."
Maria Cantwell and the DNC are proud of your support.
Yawn.
I'd vote against her again if I was still a legal WASH resident.
Nethercutt is a very decent fellow by all accounts of my friends.
But what's the point if you only end up undermining the ideology that you claim to support?
Bob Wallace's summary on Murray from Sunday's King County Journal:
"At the top of the ticket is the race for U.S. Senate. If you're a Democrat, Patty Murray has to be your choice. She's pro-choice, anti-business, pro-tax, an extreme enviro, a union hack, a Bush hater and a Democrat's dream."
He's being too kind.
I upheld the ideology I support--a nation of laws, not a nation of men. That ideology is far more fundamental than that of Republicanism. Blame me if you must, but consider blaming Slade for abandoning both ideologies.
I can't decide who's dumber, Boxer or Murray.
I reckon the truly dumb, are the voters who
continue to reelect them.
FOR SURE!
And, those voters seem to be
BREEDING like . . . welllllllllllll,
dim-RATS!
He'll win on Bush's coatail effect. I'm an optimist.
BLURRRRY HEADED MURRAY
Must read her daily 'devotional' straight out of the Commie Manifesto. What a traitorous idiot!
Trying to give SHRILLERY some competition in that dept, I guess.
I don't know what the talk about the LP being dead in this state. I think that they did a better job of recruiting candidates this go around than the Republicans. The Republicans failed miserably in so many circumstances as we don't have a viable contender for Auditor or Treasurer. We basically gave Baird, Inslee, and Larsen free passes on this turn around. Riechert lost a respect in my eyes when we walked out of a debate the other day in the 8th. Rossi is really the only viable candidate this state party got and it was pretty late in the game. Nethercutt is going to get his clock cleaned. The Republican made a mistake in my book by trying to crown Nethercutt the nominee before the primary...Reed wasn't even given a chance...Serves us right to keep getting beaten year after year.
As a loyal Republicanm, I will vote Republican...I will hold my nose and vote for Nethercutt in the general, but in the primary...although I don't think he will be the best candidate...I am voting for Reed.
Hmmmm.
I don't know anything about Reed.
And the mother of my friend who I used to check things out with has now graduated to Heaven!
What are your main problems with Nethercutt? Is he too blah?
A couple of things I take issue with. He went back on his promise to only run three terms. In essence, he lied. Integrity is very important in a US Senator. Second, he has been crowned by the State Republicans as the nominee before allowing the voters of this state to decide. Reed has not been able to speak at picnics, the state convention, or other party functions because he is not the pre-coronated nominee. I understood this is why we had primaries and the like so that we could decide for our selves who would be our representatives. Thirdly, I don't think he can win. He is from Eastern Washington, has a personality of a toad, and is not very charismatic. But honestly...that third issue is not as important to me as his integrity and honesty. If someone runs on a pledge...it should be abided by. If he felt like there was more to do...he should have stepped aside for a term and then run the next go around or run for higher office.
I take bigger issue with the State of Washington Republican Party's leadership. They have failed miserably as we do have a slate of potential candidates in this state, but they are not doing a very good job with recruiting quality candidates and funding candidates that can win. Vance is no better than Bonker.

Sensible points, to me.
Thanks.
You said Reed wasn't allowed to speak at picnics-- but I actually heard him speak at the King Co GOP picnic at Freed Farm. He was earlier denied the right to speak at another function (by the state rep party) because he (Reed) wouldn't agree to not attack the other candidates in his speech. I disagree with that decision (I think he should be allowed to say anything he wishes) and overall, he tends to represent my views more accurately than Nethercutt, however, I'd like to encourage Reed to run for a congressional seat first, before trying a senate run. Nethercutt is just much more polished and a better state-wide candidate. He seems quite charming the several times I've met him, certainly not a "toad". But I agree, the term limits contradiction may shoot him in the foot.
