GOP election lineup lacks major names (Oregon)

Oregon Republicans failed to enlist top-drawer candidates to run against U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden or three other Democrats seeking re-election to statewide offices.

This looks terrible at first glance, but I think it's just subpar. Betsy Close (Sec State), Jeff Caton (treasurer), and Paul Connolly (AG) are probably decent nominees. One of the senate candidates (Bruce Broussard?) would probably not embarass us.

Jeff Caton is a Principal and Chief Financial Officer for MCM Project Management. Mr. Caton has 17 years of experience in the implementation and integration of commercial high technology and engineering programs and projects. Mr. Caton holds a Masters Degree In Business Administration, and is an Adjunct Professor for George Fox University.

State Rep. Betsy Close

In 1976, Betsy applied for and received a Graduate Teaching Assistantship at Oregon State University in Corvallis. She received her Master of Science degree in 1978. She worked for the Benton County Comprehensive Youth Program as an instructor and taught at North Albany Middle School and South Albany High School. Betsy left teaching in 1981 with the birth of her first of four children, ages 9-20. She home-schooled her children for 14 years (1986-2000).

She is in her third term as a State Representative and is Chair of the House Business, Labor and Consumer Affairs Committee and is on the House Rules Committee. Betsy has also served as Chair of Water and Environment, Co-Chair of Natural Resources and Vice Chair of Education. She has also served on House Revenue and House Rules committees.

I'm very glad Bruce Broussard got in the Senate race. Pavel Goberman is a nutcase who attacks President Bush on his website.
