After months of indecision, former state Sen. John Schwarz said Wednesday that he is leaning toward running for Congress next year.

Schwarz, R-Battle Creek, said he's not certain he'll run, but he believes he would be an appealing candidate to many voters in the 7th Congressional District and is qualified for the job, which six-term Rep. Nick Smith is planning to vacate next year.

Earlier Thread

Schwarz is an uberRINO. He was McCain's campaign manager in Michigan. He's extremely anti-gun and extremely pro-abort. He called those that support CCW 'bubbas that strap on a 9mm' and said there is no individual right to keep and bear arms(Even Granholm said there was). He also backed tax increases to get out of a defecit. He's WORSE than both Schauer(whose terrible) and Spade, the two dems that could pose a threat. If I lived in that district, I would not vote for Schwarz, period, even with the balance of power in the house close and the committee votes. I would be voting third party or leaving it blank. A lot of people would refuse to vote for Schwarz and will switch to a Spade(a C), or even Schauer(D- over an F-) based on gun issues. I don't know if Spade's pro-life or not, I think Schauer is NOT.

Schwarz is a doctor from Battle Creek and his state senate district also covered Eaton County. He also recently ran against Posthumus for governor and got whopped by 40-50 pts in the primary. That's the likely advantage he has.

By the numbers

Eaton County(all) - 49272 voters - Bush won by 1592, 50%(Granholm won it)
Jackson County(all) - 61946 - Bush won by 3906 - 52%
Calhoun County - 55080(approx) - Gore won by 1447 - 50%(Two GOP townships in another district)
Branch County - 15783 - Bush won by 2052 - 55%
Hillsdale County - 17473 - Bush won by 3988 - 60%
Lenawaee County - 40093 - Bush by 2316(dem state rep) - 52%
Washtenaw County(approx) - 42548 - Bush by 2214 - 51% (Most bad areas in Dingell's district)

Areas Gore won(Bush won all the rest)
Eaton:
Lansing(part) by 1004 - 78%
Eaton Rapids by 326 - 50%

Jackson:
Jackson City by 2172 - 58%
Leoni Township by 229 - 51%

Calhoun:
Albion by 1238 - 70%
Battle Creek by 1718 - 53%
Bedford Township by 328 - 53%
Springfield by 280 - 57%

Lenawee:
Adrian City by 821 - 54%
Clinton Township by 25 - 49%

Washtenaw:
Scio Township (part?) by 870 - 53%
Sylvan Township by 25 - 48%

John Schwartz is not only a RINO, he's a violent thug who's committed two violent assults that I know of. He's unfit to be dog catcher, let alone Congressman.

Dan, who do you think would make the strongest conservative in the primaries? We should go with that guy and have the others drop out, otherwise we run the risk of splitting the conservative vote and letting Schwarz slip by with 30% or so.

That's the trouble. No frontrunner and all have their geographical base. Schwarz and DeWeese should split some of the vote. Bisbee is bad on guns(almost as bad as Schwarz, just quieter), but had Jackson. DeRossett has the most money and has won a tough race before. Walberg seems to have strong organization and has won tough races as well in Lenawaee. Brad Smith is Nick's son and had the last name.

None really stand out.

"Walberg seems to have strong organization and has won tough races as well in Lenawaee."

Walberg is the religious conservative, right? I say we just go with him. Lenawee is a swing area, and if he won there he can obviously appeal not only to Republicans but conservative Democrats as well. I don't anything about those candidates except what you have told me, so feel free to ignore my suggestion, but it seems to me that we need a candidate that transcends geography and appeals to an ideological constituency (such as religious conservatives) in order to defeat a RINO based in Battle Creek.

None of this would have happened had they placed Battle Creek in Upton's district and Kalamazoo in Hoekstra's district like I said they should. : )

On one occasion, Dr./Sen. Schrarz attacked a security guard who gave his car a parking ticket. There was another occasion when he severely beat another doctor with whom he had a disagreement with. Both of these were revealed in 1992, when he lost the Republican primary to Nick Smith.

If I'm not mistaken, he was a member of the state legislature at the time. Whatever the reason, this guy is scum and shouldn't be in Congress. I'd support a 'Rat before I'd support Schwarz.
