Need Articles about Women in Military/Combat
Posted on 10/21/2003 2:44:24 PM PDT by Spacemonkey1023
Hi, everyone. Just asking if anyone has any links or citations for articles dealing with women in the military. I have to do an issue portfolio for my Politics of Sexuality class (ugh), and this is the topic I've chosen. The problem is, everything is read is all women in military GOOD, more places now, etc, etc, with little, if any opposing viewpoints. Anything and everything would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I am a member of the U.S. military and do have problem with women in positions that put them in direct combat. My views are shared by many men. It is not that we don't respect women or their rights, it's just that we see a problem with their physical abilities and other problems that are unique to women.
You will not find much bad about women in the military in the press. They are forever searching for their "G.I. Jane". Even when they are wrong they are forever spinning or failing to do follow up reports. Examples include Jessica Lynch, who is now being spun into a national hero for being taken prisoner. The female helicopter pilot during the first Gulf War who was brutally raped after being taken prisoner, but not reported due to fear of public reaction. CPT Brady in the Panama who was reported as the first female to lead troops in combat, but when the incident was found to be exagerrated and even lied about by CPT Brady herself, the story died.
Places to find the information you seed are Center for Military Readiness at
http://www.cmrlink.org/principles.asp, Soldiers for the Truth at
http://www.sftt.org/, as well as several books, including "Women in the Military, Flirting with Disaster", and "The Kinder, Gentler Military". I may not have gotten the titles exactley right, but they are close.
