The GUILD 9-29-2003 My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Posted on 09/29/2003 10:13:55 AM PDT by Hillary's Lovely Legs

1. They were never looking for trouble.

2. But when trouble came, they faced it with courage.

3. They were always on the side of right.

4. They defended good people against bad people.

5. They had high morals.

6. They had good manners.

7. They were honest.

8. They spoke their minds and they spoke the truth, regardless of what people thought or "political correctness," which no one had ever heard of back then.

9. They were a beacon of integrity in the wild, wild West.

10. They were respected. When they walked into a saloon (where they usually drank only sarsaparilla), the place became quiet, and the bad guys kept their distance.

11. If in a gunfight, they could outdraw anyone. If in a fist fight, they could beat up anyone.

12. They always won. They always got their man. In victory, they rode off into the sunset.

You are in for fabulous weather this week. Perfect Indian Summer coming up. It's suppose to be in the 80's today. Just beautiful.

And we have rain forcast for today down here in MS and need it. I am having to 'tote' water to the farm to water my garden and a good rain will give me a break.

Remember I told ya'll it was a 'tad' cool here today? Scratch that, just got back from my walk and it was HOT, sweated up a storm.

You know, when I was able to walk a good distance, I always felt like I hadn't gotten any real exercise if I didn't break a good sweat.

I walked a mile yesterday, which for me was quite an accomplishment. 10 years ago, I walked 6 miles a day.

three committees to approve the change and decide who brings the potato salad.

Wait a minute, what about the strawberry jello salad made with crushed pretzels? I thought that was a church pot luck requirement!

After being interviewed by the school administration, the eager teaching prospect said: "Let me see if I've got this right.

You want me to go into that room with all those kids, and fill their every waking moment with a love for learning.
And I'm supposed to instill a sense of pride in their ethnicity, modify their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse and even censor their T-shirt messages and dress habits.

You want me to wage a war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, check their backpacks for weapons of mass destruction, and raise their self esteem.

You want me to teach them patriotism, good citizenship, sportsmanship, fair play, how to register to vote, how to balance a checkbook, and how to apply for a job.

I am to check their heads for lice, maintain a safe environment, recognize signs of antisocial behavior, offer advice, write letters of recommendation for student employment and scholarships, encourage respect for the cultural diversity of others, and; oh, make sure that I give the girls in my class fifty percent of my attention.

My contract requires me to work on my own time after school, evenings and weekends grading papers. Also, I must spend my summer vacation at my own expense working toward advance certification and a Masters degree.

And on my own time you want me to attend committee and faculty meetings, PTA meetings, and participate in staff development training.

I am to be a paragon of virtue, larger than life, such that my very presence will awe my students into being obedient and respectful of authority.

And I am to pledge allegiance to family values and the current administration. You want me to incorporate technology into the learning experience, monitor web sites, and relate personally with each student. That includes deciding who might be potentially dangerous and/or liable to commit a crime in school.

I am to make sure all students pass the mandatory state exams, even those who don't come to school regularly or complete any of their assignments. Plus, I am to make sure that all of the students with handicaps get an equal education regardless of the extent of their mental or physical handicap.

And I am to communicate regularly with the parents by letter, telephone, newsletter and report card. All of this I am to do with just a piece of chalk, a computer, a few books, a bulletin board, a big smile
AND on a starting salary that qualifies my family for food stamps!

You want me to do all of this and yet you expect me . NOT TO PRAY?"

Your favorite candidate is going to start running ads on t.v. tonight on the Jay Leno show...Seems a bit late to begin campaigning in earnest but maybe she figures she will be the last one standing come tomorrow, lol..

Good morning!

I'm thinking of you, HLL, and sending good thoughts your way and prayers upward for a good medical report.

In other news, it looks like the State Dinner for Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki will be broadcast live on C-SPAN at 9:00 Eastern time tonight.

Speaking of religion, I was a bit flabberghasted yesterday when I saw Joey Lieberman on Fox News telling lies etc about W, this being the eve of Yom Kippur and Joey and his missus being the posterchildren for Orthodox Jews.

Evidently, earlier in the week he took off on Rush and his alleged drug problems and David Frum has written a nice article on it..

Link

"Jews worldwide begin 24-plus hours of introspection and atonement at sundown tonight. The Yom Kippur prayerbook mentions almost every possible variety of human sin, but one category of sinfulness is repeatedly singled out for special mention: malicious speech. I thought of those Yom Kippur prayers as I listened to Joe Lieberman gleefully making mock of the allegations against Rush Limbaugh at last week’s Democratic National Committee meeting.........

The Bible does have lots to say about bearing false witness.

In my experience, I've found that anyone who will lie to you, will steal from you...and things can go on downhill from there.

Go Mary Go!

I had my CT scan and I don't have a brain tumor but I do have a brain, which is good. I was then sent to an Ear Nose and Throat guy and they did an endiscopy and I have nasal polyps in the cavity near my eye. It was impacted with an infection which is still causing vision problems so they are putting me on another regimine of antibiotics and decongestants. That should work, but if the polyps don't shrink we have steriods and laser surgery. Laser surgery will get rid of the polyps but there is no guarentee that they won't come back and I will lose my sense of smell.

On top of it all, on my way from the hospital to the nose clinic, I lost my muffler on the highway.

And all this before 10am. What a day.

HLL, that's somewhat promising. We'll keep praying for the antibiotics to clear up the problem.

DS - as for the pic of Mary Carey .... MOOOOO!

Will keep on praying that the antibiotics work and that this does not become a chronic problem...

What's the latest on BWB? Is she going to medicate her computer virus so she can join us again soon?

Good news, and good luck with the new regimin.

Talk to your tax dude, or dudette, about the new government plan to subsidize the SUV market with tax-advantaged ownership of a new Cadillac Escalade, or any other rig with 6000lb. GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight).

You deserve it.
