I wasn't willing to fork out extra bucks to have these experiences but yes I am camera shy. It does have to do with a perception of my appearance. It has been only recently that I've been compared to an attractive celebrity. When in high school I was told, "you're so ugly your mama has to tie a pork chop around your leg so dogs would play with you." Then for a month or so people began calling me, "Pork chop." Yes, it was really cruel.
Don't feel sorry for me. That was many years ago and I have triumphed. While no one should have to endure that sort of thing, I did. I am stronger and much more independent than I ever would have without that refining trial. Still, I carry some baggage of that experience with me. One of the manifestations is that I do not like to have my picture taken. Another is gleefully enjoying some revenge. I am far more attractive now than I was then and most of them AREN'T! HA!
