Does anyone know how Wesley Clark got his Silver Star?

I'm as harsh a critic of Clark as anyone here, but from what I've read he earned them through bravery in Vietnam, and it's not right to belittle that.

He received the silver star and purple heart in 1970 while in Vietnam. I haven't found the specifics yet.

I suspect he was given Silver Star for not leaving service after temporarily paralyzed by four AK bullets. Don't know of real heroism.

Agreed, however, there are many people deserving of such accolades who never see them.

That should not be anything to hold against Gen. Clark, nor should it qualify him as the best man for the job of the presidency - as some would want you to believe.

I am one of the leading critics of Clark on this forum, and have been since the Kosovo campaign. But I think it is highly improper to belittle the bravery of ANY American serviceman, no matter what their politics, if they served honorably at the time.

All right. That's completely uncalled for. Whatever you think of Clarks's politics, he served in Vietnam, was injured, and received the Silver Star based on real events.

You may denigrate the man for his political views, but when you begin denigrating his military service and awards, you earn the anger of every veteran who served.

Please keep your shots at Clark aimed at his political views and lay off his military service.

I think his high-level service should be in play as a consideration for his fitness as president, both relating to Waco and Kosovo. However, I think it is wrong to belittle his bravery in Vietnam as a junior officer, as some folks on this thread have done.

I agree, you have to look at the whole package.
However, Waco and Kosovo trump all in my view.
I recall that Hitler won the Iron Cross in WWI, however, in viewing him also, [and similarly], one must view the whole package.
