AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 977) [Davis Death Watch - 13 Days to Go!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | September 24, 2003 | All of Us

Posted on 09/24/2003 4:04:58 AM PDT by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!

Good morning!!

Remember the Trade Center!!

Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

In the Assembly of the State of New York, there is legislation that would ban smoking in cars if there are kids on board, and at public beaches and in parks.

A Gallup poll shows that two-thirds of Iraqis say the removal of Saddam is a good thing.

And Barbara Streisand has said the songs that she had produced over the years are "boring."

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

I came across a great zucchinni salad for you.Slice it very thin, say using a mandolin type utensil, lay them out in an overlapping pattern, then peel shavings of Parmesan cheese over top, using a spud peeler, drizzle with olive oil and some fresh ground pepper.Voila, you have a great veggie side dish. It's fresh and doesn't go soggy like this veggie can.

Actually, all three AL divisions were wrapped up last night. Technically, the Red Sox could still catch the (CENSORED), but would lose the tiebreaker. But a Cubs-Sox series would be awesome.

I reckon the Cubs would win that series. Not because they're better, but I think the Red Sox curse is stronger than the general incompetence of the Cubs.

Not sure who'd win, but I can see the 7 game being an error-filled affair going on into eternity, scoreless.

The White Nat'l Forest is on the Western slopes. They hunt near Red Stone, about an hour west of Denver.

While they are gone I will be relishing in the luxury of NOT cooking 3 big meals a day, vegging out on the days I don't have business obligations and just generally doing my own thing.

That salad also takes chopped up parsley or cilantro thrown on top.

I am a sugar-holic, choco-holic, love potatoes...

I am exactly all those things. It's why I have to make myself eat on this plan. I dreaded the thought of starting this, but my husband really needs to do something and it is easier for him to get started if I do it too.

I don't really like meat, and have lived on carbs mostly. Another thing that has made me do this is the list of aches and pains that might be eliminated. In the book there are lots of things this eating plan should help...digestive problems, sleep problems, cravings for sweets.

But I don't plan to do without those things for the rest of my life. I've heard others say that after reaching goal weight, it isn't fatal to go off Atkins for a day or weekend. I plan to do just that on Thanksgiving day.

Another thing you should investigate is the Carbohydrate Adicts Diet. I did that about 5 years ago and lost 16 pounds. After going off it I gained about 5 back, and that is where I am starting this plan. The Carb.Adicts Diet is much more lenient. It requires you to control carbs all day then have a "reward" meal where you can have bread, potatoes, sweets, etc. It worked well for me and I will probably go back on it after Mr. Pete is off induction. There is a paperback book, like the Atkins, which explains all the rules. For us carb lovers who have a little willpower, I think it is easier to stick with even though it is slower acting.

If my digestive problems come back when on the Carb.Adicts, I will go back to Atkins. It has already improved my stomach and gut problems.

Using too much bandwidth here....I sure do miss Illstillbe and her words of wisdom.

The Carb Addicts diet sounds like something described to me recently. At first it sounds like it's working on the same basic idea as Atkins, but to someone like me who knows about Atkins, it doesn't really compute.

It seems to take me a couple of days to get into ketosis by cutting way back on carbs. If you have a reward meal of carbohydrates every day on that diet, it wouldn't seem you'd ever get into ketosis.

Can you explain how it works for someone who only knows Atkins?

By the way, I've also heard of people who eat lots of carbs, but don't mix carbs and protein in the same meal. Is that sort of what the Carb Addicts diet is about?

I've known people who have had success on the carb addict diet. You eat anything you want for one hour. You cannot go past the 60 minutes.

During the day you eat no carbs at all.

What that diet does is allow you to eat the junk you really know you shouldn't have.

The other diet you may be thinking of is the Suzanne Sommers eating plan which uses combinations of food. You can have protein with some carbs or fat with protein but no fat with carbs.

I follow a mostly Atkins diet in that I eat lots of veggies, some fruits, no white stuff. No bread, pasta, rice, potatoes.

I will occasionally eat whole wheat bread but I buy the small loaf and use it with a high protein filling in a sandwich.

I would have to re-read my book carefully to be exactly precise, but the theory with Carb.Addicts diet is almost completely built around insulin control. The idea is to prevent large insulin releases for 23 hours of the day. When you have your reward meal, it must be completed within one hour. If you drag it out longer than this, it prompts another insulin release. With this plan, insulin is the culprit...the hunger hormone...which causes one to overeat.

The list of acceptable foods for the two meals (other than the reward meal) is identical to the induction phase of Atkins. The reward meal can be either lunch or dinner, but should be the same one every day. Most people choose dinner and that is what I used. Like Atkins, you cannot gorge at the reward meal, and I counted calories because I have done that for years. I found that if I kept my calories reasonable, I lost weight. If I got too generous with the reward meal, no weight loss. But no gain either.

It took me 4 months to lose 16 pounds. I have never found any other diet that worked for me. Even on those liquid diets of years ago I didn't lose. I started out at 162 and got down to 146 before I fizzeled out on it.

The nice thing about Carb Addicts is that you don't have that feeling of never getting to have a dessert and even though it's slower, it works.

I didn't have a great deal of weight to lose...my goal is/was 140. Maybe this wouldn't work for someone with lots to lose. My husband is not patient enough to try CA diet.

The judge was a despicable left wing hack. But then, that's what NY is all about.

The fix was in for the book to be on the best seller lists........much as her heinous' book. Bought but not read.

O'Reilly seems to have gone off the deep end about Franken tho. Best to just ignore the guy or state the facts and move on.

Thanks for the explanation about the Carb Addicts diet. It sounds tempting because I do miss some high carb foods sometimes, but not sure I'd do well only having them for one hour a day.

Sunday I was at the Titans game and had a big bratwurst before we went into the stadium. It really kept me full so I wasn't tempted by the expensive concessions. I realized how much I would have been tempted by the snacks there if I'd been snacking on the high-carb stuff my brother-in-law had brought before the game.

Maybe the success depends on a person's general attitude. You said you went cold turkey on carbs with Atkins. I can do that too. But I have to say that the prospect of getting to have an apple or a piece of bread at dinner helped me to hold out through the day. I never cheated or binged during the 4 months on the diet because I knew I could have something at 6:oo p.m.

I have pretty good willpower, it's just that other diets didn't work for me, so after a long period of no results, I just quit. I think I was too good at it and my metabolism just shut down from low caloric intake.

If you are an "all or nothing" type of person, perhaps it wouldn't work for you.

Lo Carb Hershey's Kisses

Mix together 1 pkg SF instant chocolate pudding (I only had the cook kind but it worked fine) with 1 Cup heavy cream and 4 oz. cream cheese. Mix until smooth. Put in a pastry bag or ziplock bag and cut off the corner. Squeeze out into kisses on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. (I had some bon-bon cups left over from Christmas and used those) Freeze until hard, transfer into bag or tupperware. Store in freezer.

Depending upon how many you end up with, the per piece totals will vary. For the entire recipe (per fitday):
1352 Calories
129 g fat
42 g carbs
16 g protein

For the 50 I made, each is:
27 calories
3 fat
1 carb
<1 protein

I'm thinking these might be nice with some chopped Marichino Cherries and chopped Walnuts. I haven't tried those additions, yet. But I will when I have time.
