How can we make a difference?

Posted on 09/12/2003 8:09:21 AM PDT by livianne

Hey, been reading FR for a while, but this is my first time actually posting something. My fiance and I have been talking a lot lately about the general decline of the moral structure of society and our worries about the world our future children will be brought into and raised in. We both want to do something that can help make a difference, but we don't know where to go or how to start. If anyone can help us out with some ideas of groups to join or anything like that, we'd be real grateful. I can't just sit back and watch the values that I hold dear disappearing from everything around me without at least trying to hold on to some form of civilized society.

you can respond here or in private message.

thanks!!!

the general decline of the moral structure of society

I think it was Margaret Thatcher who said there was no such thing as society, just individuals other than yourself. I believe that. If you believe that, then how would you go about changing the morals of other individuals? Other than creating an American Taliban, I don't see that happening.

I do believe that, but I also know that the morals that individuals develop have a lot to do with the people and the influences around them as they learn and grow. And that is effected by what the loudest and most insistent bunch decide is acceptable. If no one opposed the images and influences that are being presented to the younger generations gets loud enough to make a difference, how long is it until we're just raising generations without the will to restrain any of their desires no matter how base and without the will to be independent and get by with their own effort? Personally I'd like to try to give them a better chance.

So be an example. We must take responsibilty for ourselves, not take it away from others or give it away by blaming government or groups for our actions or inactions. IMO

I know all of that - I was asking for something more specific - ideas on things that my fiance and I could do or get involved in to try to help make a difference. I'm not blaming anyone for my actions or inactions, and I never said government had anything to do with the problem I was talking about. All I was asking for were some ideas for ways we could be active that could help.

We are constantly joining in actions on this site. In fact, I spend most time on another but come here for the activism. Keep watching and participate when there are issues.

We write, phone and fax most of the Senate, House and WhiteHouse weekly on at least one issue. Join the fight, or what we have won't be worth fighting for. Numbers matter.

My next suggestion is that you homeschool when you have children. Today's education is a lesson in social engineering which is why we slip lower and lower in the numbers.

FIGHT for what you believe in. Get to know your homeboys and call them on the things that are important to you.

Here's a couple of tollfree #s for you:

1-877-762-8762 When answered, tell them which Senator or Rep office you wish to speak to.

202-456-1414....WhiteHouse

Fax: 202-456-2461

Comment line: 202-456-6213

We've managed to make a big difference on many issues! We've kept Bush from giving Vincente Fox everything he wants which is open borders. We've stopped support for many issues, and defeated many Bills.

So join us and get active. Make your voice heard.

Thanks! I will get involved in the activism on this site - I know that every person involved makes a difference.

I've actually been seriously considering home schooling for when I have kids - my sister (who is VERY feminist and liberal and activist) is a high school teacher, and from what i hear from her she doesn't exactly stand out in the crowd. I don't want my kids taught reconstructed history or politically correct falsehoods. My only concern with that would be making sure that the kids got good social involvement in some other way. DOn't want to turn out smart loners...

Thanks for the tollfrees - I'm going to do some looking around at the issues talked about here and get myself involved.

Join a Bible based church, be very active in it as a family, and be a full time Mom when you have kids - at least until they are in school, then if you feel the need to work, adjust your schedule so you can be home when they are.

I'm Jewish - I don't think I'd much belong in a church, nor do I have any interest in joining a church. We do plan to join a temple though, as soon as we can find one that we like. I am going to be a stay at home mom - I'm learning skills now that I will be able to use for at home working so that I can earn some money but still be at home with the kids.
