LONDON (Reuters) - Britney Spears has revealed that her mother was not upset by her daughter sharing an open-mouthed kiss with Madonna at the MTV Music Video Awards.
The kiss proved to be a real showstopper in last month's awards ceremony, with 21-year-old Spears' former boyfriend Justin Timberlake watching dumbfounded from the audience.
Spears, talking to this week's edition of the BBC's Top Of The Pops Saturday, said she was embarrassed knowing that her mother had seen her in a clinch with another woman.
"It was a little awkward -- my mom saw me kissing a girl, Oh My God, " she said.
But Spears added: "If it was any other girl, I think she'd really have something to say. But because it was Madonna, she was like 'all right, baby, you're cool'."
The young pop star's clinch with 45-year-old Madonna won global coverage: "It was a surreal moment I'll never forget for the rest of my life," Spears said.
If your complaint had been "why post such a disgusting graphic?"- it would've been one thing. But you played the 'moral indignation card'- which works well and is fair enough as long as there isn't anyone around who cares to 'one-up' you. (For example, how do you 'out-Christian' the person who thinks one should prostrate onesself 24/7 until he's dead of starvation?)
MTV, is not a public sidewalk. You don't have an intrinsic claim to 'incidental contact'. It is well-known what is at MTV- controversial things. You can't go to MTV and then talk about how the 'hookers' g'strings did/didn't show enough'. You can't. It doesn't add up.
You're free. You watched. You're offended. Your problem. We cannot keep you inviolate- in situ. You have come out of the womb and joined the world of the obscene, of the real. Reality is often offensive. We can dumb it down for you- but at what price? I think, it's better, if you opt out of the things that you feel cheapen your life- then your life is (for sure) not cheapened. Don't come to me and accuse me (as a proxy for free society) of cheapening you (or making you fat, lazy, stupid, cancerous etc). You did this to yourself.
And you obviously haven't bothered to read my message.
I posted to a supposed conservative who took pleasure in watching homosexual behavior.
To reiterate- you dragged out the 'supposed conservative' argument. This is what I referred to as the 'moral indignation card'. You see, you can bandy about the term 'supposed conservative' but what if the next fellow (ME, for example) says 'well, a supposed conservative would never have watched this scene in the first place'.
What then? You see, once we get into the Stasi-like accusations of what is conservative and what not- hell, everybody can be more conservative than you. It's all a matter of will.
Freedom has, apparantly, many loose and shifty definitions. But as a conservative, I would hope that you could agree that one must take responsibility for ones own actions. You can, therefore, never assemble a coherent argument for why you witnessed the evil event in the first place given that it was held in a place of evil- MTV.
You're really not getting this are you? You can't pull the Jimmy Swaggart on us. If you saw the evil, it's because you chose to be in the evil place from the get-go. Not that Sodom And Gomorroh should've repented for your benefit.
MTV features many homsexuals. If you don't care for that sort of thing- don't go!!! Don't come to me complaining about how a gay guy hit on you while you were sipping the suds in a gay bar! Do you not see the hypocrisy there?
Don't go to Madonna's house. Don't go to her place of work. Don't go to the places she frequents. If you figure Madonna is immoral because she kisses women- hello! from over a decade ago! This is what Madonna does! It is a known fact that she has/had consensual female sex. If this offends you- why watch it in the first place!
I don't get it. Are you conservative or not? You see? This is the 'moral indignation trump' and it aint nice is it? I'm holding you to the same standard to which you hold Madonna and this Britney Spears. You were in there witnessing their act just as if you were one of the ones applauding it.
In today's world, your indignation at the act you have chosen to see is as good as affirmation of the act. The only way to circumvent you morality is to unplug (and even this is not sure).
I don't think the Moderator would be too thrilled with people reposting comments he's decided to remove from this forum.
Not a good idea at all.
Who said anything about reposting? Check the tense; I was referring to quoting during the posting of the initial reply.
Regardless of when it is done, pasting a quote from someone else's post is still "reposting" their comments.
And if the moderator pulls the original comments, it's safe to say he would pull any reposts of those comments where he finds them.
Otherwise, why bother removing them at all?
Same thing with all the "entertainment" shows. Inside Edition, Extra, Entertainment Tonight: All Britney, all the time. She must have signed a long-term recording contract or something. Somebody wants their money. Push, push, push. Now that I've been brainwashed into knowing I must like her, I'll have to go out and buy all her CD's. Not.
You give up too easy.
There are times when logic is of little or no use. Call it a hunch.
