Last time I frequented this place (sometime around the 2000 elections, then around 9/11) I remember all the talk about how we MUST elect Bush, and then elect a Republican congress and senate, and then the Republicans were going to fix everything that ails us.
It was going to be the miracle cure! 50 years of new deal BS was going to get flushed down the drain, and life will be good.
Well, I see Republican control of congress, the senate, and the WH, and I see absolutely no improvement. We have more troops in more places, we have bigger deficits, we have a senate that can't approve a judicial nomination, we still have an IRS, a bankrupt ponzi scheme called Social Security, we still have an unconstitutional war on drugs, unconstitutional property seizures, unconstitutional gun controls, unconstitutional prohibitions on religious freedom, unconstitutional affirmative action, uncosntitutional national parks, forests, preserves, "antiquities", wildernesses, etc, we have more federal paramilitary police than ever, more police in general, unconstitutional federal involvement in education, and list can go on and on as long as I feel like typing...
I'm not sure, but I don't think anyone can name one aspect of federal government that has been rolled back thus far, while many of the worst aspects have grabbed even more power over the citizens of the several states.
So I was just wondering, may I now cast votes for 3rd parties without "wasting" my vote?
Heh heh...
At least you were honest enough to call your vain rantings a "vanity".
I know they have been doing to me all day.
Util I said I had an epiphany and that current occupant of the white house would be acceptable to the National Council of Churches.
OK, they did a couple of things... but what about the presciption drug benefit? If Republicans were worth the slime left behind by a slug on a blade of grass, that would never have even been given consideration, nevermind becoming a reality.
And don't look now, but it seems they are on the verge of losing the rest of the US' mfg jobs with those new alphabet treaties... there are too many now, I can remember the intitials...
Then you two go right ahead with your mutual admiration society.
Sorry to intrude.
...Based on most of the issues you raise I assume that your political philosophy is somewhat similar to mine [i.e. 'libertarian']...The Republican party will never be a completely 'libertarian' party...Most 'Republicans' might view this as a 'good thing' and a few of us will see this as a 'negative'...
...I am fairly realistic on this issue...I know that when I vote for the 'Republicans' that they will never carry ALL [100%] of my pet issues...That's 'okay' with me...But I would hope that they would carry at least MOST of my issues [between two-thirds and three-quarters]...This in my mind is a vast improvement over the Democrats who I agree with ALMOST NEVER [maybe 5% to 10%]...
...As for the Libertarian Party...They do carry my issues MOST of the time [about 75%]...But they are unelectable and will probably remain so for the near future...
...I will probably remain fairly loyal to the Republican party as long as we can agree on MOST issues though you did bring up one issue [see above quote] that 'irked' me as well: the 'perscription drug benefit'...Why did the Republicans 'fold' on this issue? I thought that the 'conservatives' and 'free-marketers' had made a lot of progress on the 'medicare'/'social security' issue(s)...It seemed as though common sense was finally starting to 'sink in' on the American public [especially the 'Gen-X-ers']...Why 'throw-in-the-towel' at this time?
Because that particular issue brings us one step closer toward socialize medicine and socialism in general.
The fix is in. Both sides are really working toward the same goal. Watching DC politics is kinda like watching a prize fight, where both fighter's are in Don King's stable. The outcome has been predetermined, but they stilll have to go through the motions of throwing a few punches.
