Insiders say a certain social hypothermia has developed between supermodel Christie Brinkley and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. (They deny it and proclaim deep mutual affection.) The scoop is that a year ago, Clinton agreed to speak at a benefit for Brinkley's charity, the Star
Foundation, with the understanding a Hillary fund-raiser would precede the event -- but no fund-raiser took place. Although Clinton came, Brinkley reportedly felt she left too early. Now Brinkley and her husband, Peter Cook, have declined an invitation to join the board of an unrelated Clinton fund-raiser -- an act seen as a slap in the face. "They'll never be asked again," one insider fumed.
Hilly is chilly because she was stiffed out of campaign cash? Nahhhhhh, couldn't be!

FLASHBACK:
Sheila Jackson Lee, the Limousine Liberal (literally)..
Weekly Standard, February 2002
It's about 200 paces from the awning of Jackson Lee's Capitol Hill apartment to the marbled steps of the Cannon House Office Building, where her office is. Most people think the walk is a pleasant one. Red-brick townhouses give onto tree-lined streets; crossing guards ensure no one is run over. It's the kind of neighborhood where you might expect to find the Republican party's headquarters--and do. They're right next door to Jackson Lee's building. In a city that consistently ranks among the nation's worst for commuting, Jackson Lee would seem to have it made.
But apparently it's not convenient enough. Jackson Lee is routinely chauffeured the one short block to work--in a government car, by a member of her staff, at the taxpayers' expense. And apparently in violation of House rules.

U.S. actor Johnny Depp (news) pauses prior to the screening of his movie 'Once upon a time in Mexico' out of competition at the 60th Venice Film Festival, in Venice , Italy, in this Aug. 28, 2003 file photo. Depp likened the United States to a 'dumb puppy that has big teeth' in an interview published Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, ridiculing Washington's confrontation with France, where he lives, over the war in Iraq (news - web sites).(AP Photo/Luca Bruno)

There was a thread last week about a certain political candidate in California who has the tendency to steeple his fingers, much like Mr. Depp. One poster who has studied human behavior stated that finger steeplers consider themselves to smarter, superior. Hmmmmmm.......

Depp likened the United States to a 'dumb puppy that has big teeth' What a coincidence. Johnny reminds me of a puppy, too, piddling and pooping his verbal and intellectual excrement all over the place. Time to grow up, Johnny.

Get this:
Some US banks are beginning to make special accommodations for Islamic home buyers, to give the appearance of not charging interest (which is forbidden by Islam). Banks, of course, are not in business for altruistic reasons, so the interest is actually hidden in the cost of the loana hypocritical mind game that appears to satisfy the requirements of Islam. (LittleGreenFootballs)
The story is here: Chicago Sun Times. Exactly how big is the American Muslim market for this nonsense to be worth the banks' time? I guess hypocritical games are about right for the religion that claims to be peace-loving but teaches its adherents to kill everyone who isn't Muslim.

Maybe this is what Johnny Depp finds so endearing and morally superior about the French:
ARGENTINE ex-dictator General Reynaldo Bignone has admitted that 8,000 people were kidnapped and killed during the 1976-83 military regime, and said the church leadership had given its approval to torture practices. In an interview published today in Pagina 12, Bignone said French instructors had taught Argentina's military how to kidnap and torture suspected opponents of the regime, and how to secretly execute them.
Bignone said the ruling junta had asked Roman Catholic bishops in Argentina about the use of torture, and were told that it was permissible under certain circumstances. The interview was secretly filmed by French journalist Marie-Monique Robin, who was working on a documentary.
The regime's brutal repression of opponents was modelled directly on the Battle of Algiers, he said. French instructors gave conferences and consultations on how to carry out the strategy. rest of story

I can just picture Cameron out in the surf kookin' it up and getting her nose broken.
it could have been worse if the board that struck Diaz hadn't been made of foam.
It must have been a boogie board, she is very lucky, especially since her career depends on her face.

Judge upholds suspension of girl for sex act on bus
By The Associated Press
Wednesday, September 3, 2003
BEAVER -- A judge dismissed a mother's claim that a school district violated her 13-year-old daughter's constitutional rights when it suspended the girl for having oral sex with a boy on a school bus.
The woman also claimed it was not clear in the South Side Area School District's written policies that oral sex on a bus was unacceptable behavior.
Beaver County Judge George E. James, however, ditched the mother's appeal Aug. 29, saying the district's decision to suspend the girl and the 13-year-old boy was legal and supported by evidence.
The district suspended the students in May after classmates told on the teenagers. South Side Middle School Principal Thomas Ralston said the students admitted they had oral sex on the bus during a field trip.

There was a thread last week about a certain political candidate in California who has the tendency to steeple his fingers, much like Mr. Depp. One poster who has studied human behavior stated that finger steeplers consider themselves to smarter, superior. Perfect description of the ever smug, egotistical and pompous Mr. Depp.
And his upper lip is mighty thin.

Hey IG, I have been traveling a lot - was in LA last week. Man, I hate going to California. Fortunately, that's out of the way for the rest of the year. Those people are all crazy!
OH guess what! After I decided not to buy the sailboat, and contacted the owners to thank them for their time and to tell them I was withdrawing from the "competition," they wrote me back and we worked out a price and now I own that beautiful classic boat!
Loddy, you must come up and go sailing with me. Perhaps we could have a Guild Reunion in Bar Harbor and we could all go for a sail.
Gotta run - I stepped on a sliver of glass Friday night and thought I'd gotten it all out of my foot but alas, it hurts like heck so I have to go to the doc and have them fix it. I feel pretty stupid about that.
