I just can't understand why these Linux shills can't see the national security concerns presented in spreading source code all over the planet to an OS they are now all but DEMANDING that governments use through legislation with a shilly shally "herding cats" development model.

And the next thing he'll tell us is that we need gun control (more than both hands) to keep guns out of the hands of criminals......

You can't keep GPL code out of China's reach. By nature, it is open and freely distributed. You can't stop China from using PGP. All it takes is one agent to come here, buy one license and take it back to China. The best way to confront a threat is openly and aggressively. That means that we don't regulate our own people to stop Al Qaeda, rather we pass a law equivalent to the Brits' which states that no crown agent can be prosecuted for crimes committed overseas when carrying out official crown operations.

Need me to be more specific? Let the CIA commit murder and every other sin overseas necessary to get rid of Al Qaeda and similar groups. China? Arm Taiwin with tactical nuclear weapons and the largest possible modern navy it can support. And just for icing on the cake, let's arm the Uygurs and Tibetans with small convention arms and ordinance (ie small explosives, not stinger missiles). North Korea? Why don't we tell them to stop threatening us or we will construe continued threats from them as preparations for a nuclear attack on the US and we will at our discression launch a first strike against them.

Or yelling about us needing the government to keep the telephone network out of the hands of terrorists. Why "they could use it to pass voice messages to each other." Or the Internet, or the Interstate Highway system. They could use the Interstate Highways to facilitate delivery of truck bombs. We must have government checkpoints at all onramps! The free access to the telephone and to highways threatens us all!

He's a paranoid looney that gives all FReepers a bad name.

No kidding. Hence, the reason why some of us oppose helping our enemies with free code...
