In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....
scintilla \sin-TIL-uh\, noun
scintillant; adjective
1. A tiny or scarcely detectable amount; the slightest particle; a trace
2. A spark; a flash.
3. Miniscule
In victory, they must hold on to at least a scintilla of humility, lest they get too cocky -- and ripe for a takedown.
--Bill Breen, "'We are literally trying to stop time,'" Fast Company, May 2000
Etymology: Latin scintilla, "a spark, a glimmer, a faint trace." Also from scintilla is the verb scintillate, "to sparkle."

Hopefully it will skip their beach. They'd had some nasty storms before we got there that left a lot of loose seaweed around but it was still beautiful.

You got that right.
You'll get a kick out this - because I know all the smoke gnatzies would call me a liar.
We went outside after dinner last night and Jax started running around in the yard with the puppy......well then she started running perimeter of the house with the puppy. I shocked myself not only in the fact that I was able to beat them both in a race around the house - I did it 3 times and never got winded!!!
But that's impossible, you say, because I'm a smoker.........and we all know that smokers are incapable of even climbing a simple flight of stairs without getting winded, let alone do a full out run!!!

Since there were clusters of seaweed on the beach, I got artistically inspired and made crime scene outlines of the kids. They looked really neat. We could see them from our room later, up on the 8th floor. I think I scared the people near us. Our sand sculptures were more tame.

xsSIL said xsbro was laughing at their luck, which is typical of OUR's actually. so i am sure they will be fine. they need the relaxation. school starts the last week of August for them. if they were driving (which is NOT far-fetched, xsbro is a driving fool. he drives to AL froM OH ROUTINELY for work.) i would make him stop and pick me up and take me along.

No witnessed abominations in nearly 2 weeks. Either they're reformed or have gone into the closet.

That's nice.
We never joined either of the CC's in Dover, not because of the money involved, all things considered it was relatively inexensive, but because the particular "set" in Dover that belonged were not my cup of tea. There were enough really nice public golf courses to play when the urge struck. Also I did have some 'real' friends that belonged to the CC's, so I had access if I wanted it.
No such thing around here, have to go to maryland to play golf....that course is closer than Cape Charles.

Sheesh...but having spent my summers on the gulf coast of Florida, is not surprising.
Maybe they will luck out - those things usually wind up petering out or heading further west.

how come when hurricanes are building no one talks about them petering in?
To: Gabz
you cannot GET on a public golf course in this area, way too crowded. golf is truly the only fun thing that xshub enjoys (well other than the obvious, LOL!) and so after 10+ years on the waiting list for Army-Navy, bc a military friend sponsored him, we got in 2 years back. it is inexpensive for Military, but understandably MUCH more $$$ for not. So while we are paying a fair amount, it means the people there are nicer than you would expect bc they are almost ALL military and not snooty in the slightest, and the pool is NEVER crowded. it is really perfect for us.

I don't have to worry about those problems with my 2 - the old girl does not like the puppy to come anywhere near her......

Once downloaded, they will be sent, I promise. I have to depend on the spouse to do that part and sometimes it's like pulling teeth, because I'm so busy cooking for him and massaging his weary feet, etc. according to the hobbes rules for wives. I shouldn't vex him with my petty concerns. ;)
To: CholeraJoe
amazing how you knew they would turn around and they did. almost as if you had experienced it personally.... ; )
so how the hell ya been, ceej. i miss you terribly when you travel!

I believe it!
My mom was a lifeguard in her elder age. She swam the Mississippi when she was young. She never smoked nor drank, except at holidays.
She asked me one day to come swimming with her. She said she had never seen anyone swim as long and as hard as I did. And I'm a smoker. I wasn't trying to impress; I just got in and started swimming away. Swim classes way back when were helpful later on in life. It's the stroke, you know.
